Vestrahorn - Icelandic Handmade Chocolate

A thick handmade bar of dark chocolate and caramel chocolate studded with liquorice dates: sweet dates rolled in pure liquorice root, coarse sea salt and a touch of citrus, with a whisper of piri piri. Soft, chewy date first, then the liquorice, then salt and warmth against the dark chocolate. Break it into ragged pieces; it isn't a bar for neat squares.

Made by Anna Marta, an artisan chocolate maker in Iceland, in a series named after Icelandic landscapes. Vestrahorn is the jagged mountain that rises straight out of the black sand at Stokksnes in the southeast.
