Trölla Tópas - Eucalyptus

Green Trölla Tópas: large liquorice pastilles with a cool eucalyptus flavour, sugar free. They start herbal and menthol-fresh, then the liquorice extract comes through underneath, and one lasts a good while — these are pastilles you keep in your mouth, not chew. Fresh breath is the point; the liquorice is the bonus.

Tópas is one of Nói Síríus's classic pastille lines from Reykjavík, and it has been an Icelandic pocket staple for decades. "Trölla" — "of trolls" — is the troll-sized version, with bigger pieces than the standard box.

Good to know: 100 g resealable zip bag · sugar free, sweetened with maltitol, xylitol and acesulfame K · stabiliser (E414), liquorice extract, flavours, coconut oil, glazing agent (beeswax) · made in a factory that handles milk, soya, almonds, hazelnuts and wheat — always check the pack · excess consumption may have a laxative effect · doesn't melt.

How people buy it: A car-and-coat-pocket pastille; the zip bag is why. Expats order it with the Opal pastilles for a full Nói Síríus pastille set, and it's a light, non-melting add-on for summer orders.
