Good to know

Tíglar (Lopi 30) — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. All three are still made by Ístex: Léttlopi white (0051) and chocolate (0867), and Einband pink (1768). Our shop calls 0867 chocolate heather.
How is the pink knitted?
The chart key reads “C 1768 2-ply Einband”: the pink is knitted with two strands of Einband held together, alongside the single strands of Léttlopi. The materials list gives one 50 g ball.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — S, M, L and XL — with a chest of 80, 90, 97 and 106 cm all the way round (it matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge to within a centimetre — our check), 34, 35, 36 and 37 cm from the hem to the underarm, and sleeves of 50, 51, 52 and 52 cm.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls: white (A) 7 (7, 8, 8) and chocolate (B) 2. Einband in 50 g balls: pink (C) 1.
How is the yoke knitted?
Body and sleeves are joined at the underarm, 224 (240, 256, 272) stitches, and the 50-round chart is knitted in the round with the decreases worked into it: six decrease rounds take it to 70 (75, 80, 85) stitches, and the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. Then the neck is decreased a little more and knitted in k4, p2 rib for 4 cm.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Only small things. The neck rib is k4, p2, but the neck has 68 (72, 76, 80) stitches — only size M divides evenly by 6, so in the other sizes the rib ends with part of a repeat. In size M the body puts 10 stitches on each underarm holder and the sleeves 9. A stray “L”, the Icelandic abbreviation for stitch, is left in the yoke instructions. The list leaves out stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
Is this the Tíglar from Lopi 29?
No. Lopi 29 has a different pattern called Tíglar. This one is Lopi 30, no. 14, by Guðrún Ragna Sigurjónsdóttir.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The sweater is. The dark brown trousers and the earring are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, materials, gauge, notes, all the instructions and the yoke chart with its key; a blank page; and Ístex’s back cover.
