Good to know

Sneið — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. All five are still made by Ístex: Álafosslopi black heather (0005), grey (0057), ash (0054), teal (9967) and chartreuse (9965). Our shop calls them black heather, grey heather, light ash heather, teal heather and chartreuse green heather, so go by the colour numbers.
How big is it?
One size, 40 cm (15¾″) across. The pattern gives no gauge; each circle is knitted on 6 mm needles and ends with 152 stitches round the edge.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls, one of each of the five colours, for the cushion as printed: black heather (A) for both sides, grey (B) and ash (C) for one side, teal (D) and chartreuse (E) for the other. The pattern gives no amounts for making both sides in the same colours.
How is it knitted?
From the centre out, in the round. Each circle starts with 8 stitches made with the crochet hook in a ring; then on every 4th round you increase on both sides of each of those 8 stitches with a “double lifted increase”, nine times, from 8 to 152 stitches. The pattern explains the circle cast-on and the increase step by step.
Do I need a crochet hook?
Yes, a 6 mm crochet hook — for the cast-on at the centre of each circle and for the chain cords that tie the cushion to the chair. Everything else is knitted.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Only small things. There is no gauge and no length for the chain cords. The list leaves out a stitch holder and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The cushion is — one photo shows its grey side, the other its green side. The black iron chair is not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of the grey side; a page with a photo of both sides, the size, materials, notes, all the instructions, the edge chart and its key; a blank page; and Ístex’s back cover.
