Órói is a round-yoke Álafosslopi sweater with an opening in the yoke and a high ribbed collar, from Ístex’s Lopi 27, designed by Védís Jónsdóttir. Body and sleeves are knitted in the round, with a small border above the ribs; the yoke has bands in black heather, white and acorn (light grey in the grey version), and from its eighth round it is knitted with purl stitches at the opening, which is then machine-sewn, cut and finished with ribbed bands. It closes with six clasps, or with hooks and bars. Two colour versions — brown, with a beige tweed body, and grey, with a light grey body — in sizes S to XXL, with men’s and women’s sleeve lengths. Beige tweed (9976), the brown version’s main colour, is no longer made by Ístex; our brown kit uses it from our remaining stock.

6 mm (US 10) circular needles, 40 and 80 cm — for the body and the yoke
4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles for the sleeves — 4.5 mm for the cuffs

Six clasps (15 mm) or hooks and bars — in the pattern’s list — and, though the list leaves them out, a sewing machine and thread in a matching colour, stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
How it is knitted
The body starts with 3 cm of K1, P1 rib in black heather on 4.5 mm; then on 6 mm 6 stitches are increased evenly, a 5-round border is knitted in black heather and the main colour, and the body goes on in plain main colour to the underarm. The sleeves start the same way, but the rib is knitted back and forth before the sleeve is joined into a round, so each cuff has a small opening; 3 stitches are increased evenly after the rib, and after the border 1 stitch after the first and 1 before the last stitch of the round, 8 (8, 8, 8, 9) times — every 8th (8th, 8th, 9th, 8th) round for the men’s length, every 7th (7th, 8th, 8th, 7th) for the women’s. Body and sleeves are joined at 192 (200, 208, 216, 224) stitches for the round yoke: chart 2 (7 rounds; sizes S and M leave out the first), then 5 stitches go on a holder, a stitch is cast on at each side of them and purled all the way up, and chart 3 is knitted to round 41, with five decrease rounds, to 72 (75, 78, 81, 84) stitches once the 2 purl stitches are bound off; the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. The opening is machine-sewn twice through each chain of purl stitches and cut between the seams. The right band is knitted from the 5 held stitches and the left band is cast on separately — both in K1, P1 rib with a 3-stitch stocking-stitch facing that is folded over the machine sewing on the wrong side and slip-stitched down. The collar is knitted on 4.5 mm from the yoke and band stitches: 13 (14, 15, 16, 19) stitches are decreased on the first round, then 3 cm of K1, P1 rib, 10 stitches increased, 8 cm more, bound off loosely in rib. The underarms are grafted.
