Good to know

Öngull — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. All six are still made by Ístex: black sheep (0052), white (0051), oatmeal (0085), light beige (0086), light ash (0054) and ash heather (0056). Our shop calls them black sheep heather, white, oatmeal heather, light beige heather, light ash heather and ash heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes — XS, S, M, L and XL — with a chest of 97, 102, 106, 111 and 115 cm all the way round (it matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge — our check), 43, 45, 46, 47 and 48 cm from the hem to the underarm, and sleeves of 50, 52, 53, 54 and 55 cm.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls: black sheep (A) 4 (4, 4, 4, 5), white (B) 1 (1, 2, 2, 2), oatmeal (C) 1 (1, 2, 2, 2), light beige (D) 1 (1, 1, 2, 2), light ash (E) 1 (1, 1, 2, 2) and ash heather (F) 1 (1, 2, 2, 2) — 9 (9, 12, 14, 15) balls in all.
Where does the chart start?
The sleeves start at the chart’s first round and the body at round 14 — the body is 13 rounds shorter — so both reach the underarm on the same round; the pattern suggests knitting the sleeves first and using them to mark the body’s length. The chart’s row numbers are printed slightly out of line with the rows: count the rows themselves — 29 rounds, two white rounds at the bottom (our reading).
Who designed it?
The leaflet credits four people: the original pattern is by Guðrún Gunnarsdóttir and Védís Jónsdóttir redesigned it for Lopi 34; the original instructions are by Astrid Ellingsen, revised by Hulda Hákonardóttir.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Only small things: a few typos (“las 4 sts” for last 4 stitches). The collar is knitted on 5 mm over 64 to 72 stitches — too few for the 80 cm circular in the list, so use the 5 mm double-pointed needles there (our suggestion). The list leaves out stitch holders, markers and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The sweater is. The jeans are not. This photo is from Ístex’s photos of this pattern; the PDF’s own photo shows the same sweater on the same man, sitting.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, materials, gauge, notes, all the instructions, the chart and its key; a blank page; and Ístex’s back cover.
