Guðrún Gunnarsdóttir Michelsen’s long round-yoke sweater from Ístex’s Lopi 31 is knitted in Léttlopi: chocolate, with a deep band of oatmeal heather diamonds and hooked, scroll-like shapes round the shoulders. Cables run through it — two side by side up the front near the left side, small cables round the cuffs, and a ring of small cables above the pattern band that close up towards the neck. One colour version, in sizes S to L. Both colours are still made.

Gauge
18 sts × 24 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 4½ mm needles. The pattern notes that two-colour knitting can come out tighter, so a needle ½ mm larger may help there.
Needles
4½ mm (US 7) circular needles, 40 and 80 cm, for the body and the yoke
4 mm (US 6) circular needle, 80 cm, for the body rib
4 mm and 4½ mm double-pointed needles for the sleeves — 4 mm for the cabled cuffs
A cable needle
You will also need
Stitch markers, stitch holders for the underarm stitches and a tapestry needle for grafting and weaving in — the instructions use them, but the pattern’s list leaves them out.
How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up. The hem is a two-round rib — a round of K1, P1, then a knit round — for 7 (8, 8) cm, on 188 (204, 220) stitches and a 4 mm circular. On 4½ mm, two 8-stitch cables, 2 stitches apart, are set 11 (12, 13) stitches from the start of the round — on the front, by the left side, as the photos show — and twisted every 10th round up to the pattern band. At 20 (22, 24) cm the body is decreased at both sides four times, every 6th round, to 172 (188, 204) stitches, and 10 rounds later increased again to 176 (192, 208). At 42 (44, 46) cm the 35-round chart begins. The sleeves have 54 stitches in every size and start with 2 plain rounds and a cuff of nine small cables, twisted six times; then they are increased at the underarm on 4½ mm to 60 (64, 64) stitches, and the chart begins at 37 (38, 39) cm. After chart round 25, body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke of 256 (256, 288) stitches, and the chart is finished. After a few plain chocolate rounds, the first with decreases, 24 (25, 27) small cables are set round the yoke, 6 stitches apart; each twist also takes a stitch away, and after six twists the cables meet (our reading of the counts), at 96 (100, 108) stitches. The neckband is 2 (3, 3) cm of K1, P1 rib, bound off in rib. The underarms are grafted.

Why you'll love it
- A deep pattern band35 rounds of oatmeal heather diamonds and hooked, scroll-like shapes on chocolate, round the shoulders and the tops of the sleeves.
- Cables that close upAbove the band, small cables 6 stitches apart lose a stitch at every twist until, by our count, they meet at the neck — they shape the yoke.
- Cabled cuffsEach sleeve starts with nine small cables instead of rib.
- Long, shaped at the sides52 to 56 cm from the hem to the underarm; the body is narrowed at the sides above the rib and widened a little again before the chest.
