Good to know

Lopi 12 No. 16 — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. All three are still made by Ístex: 0086, 0058 and 0051, all Álafosslopi. The leaflet prints only the numbers; our shop calls them light beige heather, dark grey heather and white.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, XS to XL, with a chest of 102, 106, 111, 115 and 120 cm all the way round — the body’s stitches at the pattern’s gauge, to within 1 cm (our check). The length is 62 to 72 cm to the centre front neck, and the body is knitted 38 to 44 cm from the hem to the underarm. Sleeves are 41 to 45 cm for women and 46 to 50 cm for men. Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls: light beige heather (0086) 6 (6, 7, 7, 8), dark grey heather (0058) 2 and white (0051) 1 in every size — 9 (9, 10, 10, 11) balls. The pattern gives one amount for both sleeve lengths.
How is the yoke knitted?
In the round from one chart of 43 rounds. The repeat starts at 6 stitches and narrows to 5, 4, 3 and finally 2 as one knit-2-together in each repeat is worked on rounds 17, 28, 37 and 43. No round uses more than two colours (our reading of the chart). Sizes XS to L leave out marked rounds — XS rounds 1, 16, 27, 36, 40, 41 and 42; S rounds 1, 16, 27, 36 and 42; M rounds 16, 27, 36 and 42; L rounds 36 and 42; XL knits every round.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Only small things. The needle list has no 6 mm double-pointed needles, but each sleeve changes to 6 mm with only 42 (42, 42, 48, 48) stitches — about 32 to 37 cm round (our calculation), too few for a 40 cm circular — so you will need them (our reading). The list leaves out a tapestry needle, and the pattern calls a circular needle a “twin pin” (once just “twin”). The stitch counts all add up (our check).
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The sweater is. The white polo neck under it and her dark tights or leggings are not. The man holding her hand at the right edge is not part of it either: his white sweater is Lopi 12 no. 6 (marked on the PDF’s cover), a different pattern, and his blue jeans show below it.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, materials, gauge, all the instructions, the border chart and the colour key; a page with the yoke chart; and Ístex’s back cover.
