His light trousers and the plant are not part of the pattern; the man on the left wears Lopi 12 no. 4 (a different pattern), a black polo neck and black trousers. A LOPI logo is over the photo

Good to know

Lopi 12 No. 11 & 12 — your questions, answered

Is this pattern No. 11 or No. 12?
Both. The leaflet is one pattern — one set of instructions and charts — for two colour versions of the same sweater, with the colours side by side in the materials list and the same amounts. No. 11 is red (on the cover, marked 12-11, worn by the woman). No. 12 is black sheep, a very dark brown (on the back page, marked 12-12). Only the colours differ.
Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
For No. 12, yes: 0052 (M), 0051 (A) and 0053 (B) are still made by Ístex — black sheep, white and acorn in its Lopi 18 leaflets; our shop calls them black sheep heather, white and acorn heather. For No. 11, one of the three: 0005 (A — black heather, the rib, the neckband and the dark pattern) is still made, but 9389 (M — the red body, sleeves and yoke background) and 9332 (B — the gold triangles) are not. The leaflet prints only the numbers; Ístex calls them burnt red and antique gold in its Lopi 18 leaflets. We have no kit for No. 11.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, XS to XL, with a chest of 102, 106, 111, 115 and 120 cm all the way round and a length of 62, 65, 68, 70 and 72 cm to the centre front neck. Sleeves are 41, 43, 43, 45 and 45 cm to the underarm for women and 46, 48, 48, 50 and 50 cm for men. The body is 38 (40, 42, 43, 44) cm from the cast-on edge to the underarm. The chest matches the body’s 132 to 156 stitches at the pattern’s gauge (our check). Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls, the same amounts for both versions: M 6 (6, 7, 7, 8), A 2 (3, 3, 3, 3) and B 1 in every size — 9 (10, 11, 11, 12) balls. No. 11: M burnt red (9389), A black heather (0005), B antique gold (9332). No. 12: M black sheep (0052), A white (0051), B acorn (0053). The pattern gives one amount for both sleeve lengths.
Anything to watch for?
The needle list has no 6 mm double-pointed needles, but each sleeve changes to 6 mm after the cuff with only 42 to 48 stitches — about 32 to 37 cm round (our calculation), too few for a 40 cm circular — so you will need them (our reading). The chart key prints the codes short: 389, 05 and 332 for No. 11, and 52, 51 and 53 for No. 12. And the pattern calls a circular needle a “twin pin”.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
In our photo, the sweater on the right, marked 12-12, is No. 12; his light trousers and the small plant are not part of the pattern. The man on the left, marked 12-04, wears Lopi 12 no. 4, a different pattern, over a black polo neck, with black trousers. A large LOPI logo is printed over the photo. In the PDF, the cover shows No. 11 on a woman whose printed scarf, earring and jeans are not part of this pattern; the man holding her wears Lopi 12 no. 13 (marked 12-13), a different pattern, and the blue mittens with red cuffs are on his hands — Ístex’s Lopi 12 no. 13 leaflet has the pattern for those mittens.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of No. 11; a page with a small photo of No. 12, the sizes, the materials for both versions, the tension, all the instructions, the border chart and the key; a page with the yoke chart; and a back page with a photo of No. 12 and Ístex’s address.
