Good to know

Kría — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
All but one. Sun yellow (1411), the third colour of the bluegreen version — the yellow rings on the cardigan and the pom-pom — is no longer made by Ístex; our bluegreen kit uses 1703 mimosa in its place. The other four are still made: Léttlopi pink (1412), black heather (0005) and white (0051) for the pink version, and glacier blue (1404) and white for the bluegreen. Our shop calls 1412 pink heather.
Which size should I knit?
The cardigan comes in four sizes, 1, 1–2, 2–3 and 3–4 years, with a chest of 55, 59, 64 and 68 cm all the way round — by our check that is the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge, counting the two purl stitches at the front. It is 18 to 24 cm from the hem to the underarm, with sleeves of 20 to 26 cm. The hat is one size, 2–4 years: 80 stitches round, about 44 cm at the pattern’s gauge (our calculation). Measure a cardigan that fits the child well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls. Cardigan: A 3 (3, 4, 4), B 1 and C 1 — 5 (5, 6, 6) balls in all. The hat has its own list: one ball each of A, B and C.
How is the front opened?
The body and yoke are knitted in the round with two purl stitches at the centre front. At the end you machine-stitch with small straight stitches twice through each column of purl stitches and cut between the stitched rows. The zip is sewn in by hand under the front edges, and the folded neckband hides its top end.
How is the hat made?
In the round, from the brim up: 20 rounds of knit 1, purl 1 rib in B, folded in half at the end; then 2 plain rounds, a 9-round band in all three colours and 10 rounds in A. Nine decrease rounds, 5 rounds apart, make the long point, and a pom-pom in C is fastened to the top.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Small things. The pom-pom note says “see further information on making pompoms, page 2”, but this PDF has no such page; the note itself gives the template size — about 4 cm across with a 1.5 cm hole. The hat’s 2 plain rounds after the rib have no colour given. The cardigan’s list gives no length for the zip. The lists leave out stitch holders, a sewing machine, the pom-pom templates and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The cardigans and the hat are; the zips are not included. The white dress with a ribbon bow and the light brown shoes in the bluegreen photo, and the small pink hair tie, the black leggings and the pink rubber boots in the pink photo, are not part of the pattern.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of the bluegreen cardigan and hat; a page with a small photo of the pink cardigan, the cardigan’s sizes, materials, gauge, notes, instructions and both its charts with the colour key; a page with the rest of the cardigan instructions, the hat photo, the hat’s materials, gauge, instructions and chart; and Ístex’s back cover.
