Why you'll love it

  • Rose borderA 13-round band of red roses and green leaves on black, above a deep eyelet-rib hem.
  • A-line skirtDecreases at eight points narrow the skirt to a 10 cm ribbed waist; the pattern says you can knit more or fewer rounds between them for a longer or shorter dress.
  • Fitted bodiceIncreased three times for the bust, with a deep scoop neck at the front and crocheted edges at the neck and armholes.
  • Two looksPink with a white hem, or lagoon teal with an ash hem — the same rose band and the same amounts.

Good to know

Klukka — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
All but one are still made by Ístex: pink (1412), white (0051), lagoon (9423), ash (0054), black (0059) and spring green (1406). Light red (1408), the roses in both versions, is no longer made. Our pink and teal kits use crimson red (9434) in its place — the closest Léttlopi red Ístex still makes, but deeper than the light red roses in the photos. Our shop calls 1412 pink heather, 9423 lagoon heather, 0054 light ash heather (its “ash heather” is a different colour, 0056) and 1406 spring green heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — S, M, L and XL — with a chest of 80, 84, 88 and 93 cm. That is the measurement of the dress itself (it matches the stitch count — our check), and the bodice is close-fitting; the pattern gives no advice on ease, so compare with a dress or top that fits you. The dress is 91 to 98 cm long and 142 to 155 cm round the hem.
The pattern’s size table says the dress is 142–155 cm long — is that right?
No — two rows of the table are swapped. The numbers printed as “Width (lower edge)”, 91 (93) 96 (98) cm, are the length; the numbers printed as “Length”, 142 (146) 151 (155) cm, are the width all round the hem. You can check it: the skirt has 256 to 280 stitches just above the eyelet hem, which at 18 stitches to 10 cm is 142 to 156 cm round, and skirt, waist rib, bodice and armhole add up to 89–96 cm before the last rows at the shoulders (our calculation). The size table on this page shows the corrected values.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls, the same for both versions: the main colour A — pink or lagoon — 7 (7, 8, 9), the hem colour B — white or ash — 2, and one ball each of black, spring green and light red in every size: 12 balls for S and M, 13 for L, 14 for XL. The pattern says you can knit more rounds between the skirt decreases for a longer dress — that takes more of the main colour.
Is the top in the photos part of the pattern?
No — Klukka is sleeveless. In the photos it is worn over a top with sleeves (long black sleeves with the pink dress, three-quarter grey sleeves with the teal one), with black tights and ankle boots or long black socks; none of these is in the pattern.
Is anything else unclear in the pattern?
Three small things. At the armholes, “dec 1 st every other row 5 times” means one stitch at each armhole edge — that is how 60 stitches become 50 in size S. The front’s last 13 (13, 14, 14) cm are measured from the neck cast-off, so front and back armholes match (our reading). And the back shoulders are cast off while the front ones stay on the needle, so “graft” means sewing the open front stitches to the cast-off back edge (our reading).
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of the pink dress, one page with the materials for both versions, the sizes, gauge, all the instructions, the rose chart and a small photo of the teal dress, a blank page and Ístex’s back cover.
