Good to know

Karri — your questions, answered

What size is it?
One size, M/L. The only measurement in the pattern is the 12 cm neck rib. By our calculation the yoke is about 77 cm round where it sits on the shoulders — 108 stitches at 14 stitches to 10 cm.
Who is it for, and how is it worn?
The pattern does not say. In the photo a young man wears it with the rib standing up round his neck, over a black top and under an open jacket. It is knitted in one piece with no opening or fastening, so it goes on over the head (our reading).
How much yarn do I need?
One plate of Plötulopi, about 100 g, in winter blue (1432), knitted with two strands held together all the way. Winter blue is still made; our shop calls it winter blue heather. It is also one of the three colours in the blue version of Húm, in the same book.
How do I knit two strands from one plate?
The pattern says to knit directly from the plate or to wind two strands softly together first. One way is to wind the plate into two balls and knit from both at once (our suggestion).
How is the bib knitted?
After 4 rounds of moss stitch the back and sides are bound off, and the 31 front stitches are knitted back and forth. Every row starts and ends with a decrease, so the bib narrows to a point: for 7 rows a 5-stitch moss border frames the stocking-stitch centre, the last 5 rows are all moss stitch, and the final 7 stitches are bound off. The pattern writes out each of the 12 rows.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, one page with the materials, gauge and all the instructions, a blank page and Ístex’s back cover.
