Young man with short reddish-blond hair in front of weathered white-painted wooden boards, wearing Fönn in the pattern’s own colours — a black heather sweater with a yoke of ash heather eight-pointed stars, large at the base and smaller above, an ash heather ribbed neckband with a dark rolled edge, and rolled edges at the cuffs and hem. The blue jeans are not part of the pattern. The Lopi logo and www.istex.is are printed on the photo

Why you'll love it

  • Stars in two sizesThe yoke opens with a wide band of large eight-pointed stars, then rows of smaller stars and small crosses towards the neck.
  • Two colours onlyThe whole sweater is black heather and ash heather; the yoke chart uses just these two. It prints the light ash heather as the black squares, so go by the key.
  • Woman’s or man’s sleevesOne set of sizes with two sleeve lengths: 44–47 cm for a woman, 47–50 cm for a man.
  • Edges with a rollThe hem and cuffs start with 6 rounds of stocking stitch before the rib, and the neckband ends with 6 rounds of black heather above the ash heather rib — in the photo these edges roll.

Good to know

Fönn — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. Both are still made by Ístex: Léttlopi black heather (0005) and ash heather (0054). Our shop calls 0054 light ash heather.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes, S to XL, with a chest of 89, 98, 106 and 115 cm all the way round; it matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge to within 1 cm (our check). The body is 40 (41, 42, 43) cm from the hem to the underarm; the size table gives a body length of 58 (60, 62, 64) cm. The sleeves are 44 (45, 46, 47) cm in the woman’s length or 47 (48, 49, 50) cm in the man’s. Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls: black heather (A) 10 (10, 10, 11) and ash heather (B) 2 — 12 (12, 12, 13) balls in all. The pattern gives one amount for both sleeve lengths.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Two things in the counts. The sleeve increases read “in first rnd after rib then in 7th (7th) 6th (6th) rnd, 12 (13) 14 (15) times” — the stitch counts printed, 64 (68, 72, 74), work out only if the first increase round is one of the 12 (13, 14, 15) (our check). And in size XL the body has 208 stitches, but the yoke join uses 90 + 12 + 90 + 12 = 204 of them; the leaflet does not say what happens to the other 4. The chart key shows the light ash heather as black squares. The materials list leaves out stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The sweater is. The blue jeans are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, materials, gauge, notes and all the instructions; a page with the yoke chart and its key; and Ístex’s back cover.
