Védís Jónsdóttir’s round-yoke pullover from Ístex’s Lopi 25 is knitted in Léttlopi in nine colours: the body and sleeves are stripes of six rounds, a new colour each time, and the yoke and the sleeve borders are bands of roses — the pattern’s word — with small flowers sewn in when the knitting is done. The hem and cuffs are moss stitch, and the neckband is folded to the inside. Two sizes, S/M and M/L. Three of the nine colours — lilac, light red and sun yellow — are no longer made.

Stitch holders for the underarm stitches, and a tapestry needle for grafting, sewing down the neckband and sewing in the small flowers — the instructions use them, but the pattern’s list leaves them out.
How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up. The body is cast on in A with 160 (176) stitches on the 3½ mm circular and knitted in moss stitch for 6 rounds; on 4½ mm it goes on in stocking stitch in stripes of 6 rounds, a new colour each time, in the order the pattern lists — 10 stripes for size S/M, 12 for M/L — until the body measures 27 (29.5) cm; the pattern adds: “Work extra stripes if you want a longer sweater.” The sleeves are cast on in A with 60 stitches on 3½ mm double-pointed needles and knitted in moss stitch for 6 rounds, then on 4½ mm the sleeve border chart — 31 rounds, 28 in size S/M — and 6-round stripes; in the last stripes 2 stitches are increased at the underarm every 6th round, 2 (4) times, to 64 (68), and the sleeve measures 44 (45) cm. Body and sleeves are joined in E for the round yoke, 256 (272) stitches, and the yoke chart — 50 rounds, 46 in size S/M — with six decrease rounds takes it to 80 (85). The neckband is knitted on 3½ mm double-pointed needles: one round in A decreasing to 72 (74) stitches, 6 rounds of moss stitch, a purl round and 5 rounds of stocking stitch; it is cast off loosely, folded in half to the inside and stitched down. The underarms are grafted, small flowers are sewn into the roses on the sleeves and the yoke, and the sweater is rinsed and laid flat to dry.

Why you'll love it
- A stripe every six roundsBody and sleeves are knitted in stripes of six rounds, a new colour each time, in an order the pattern writes out for each size.
- Roses on the yoke and cuffsThe yoke chart and the sleeve border chart are bands of roses and small motifs in many of the colours, with the yoke decreases worked into the chart.
- Flowers sewn in at the endWhen the knitting is done, small flowers are sewn into the roses — yellow, glacier blue and blue on the sleeves; blue, pink, yellow and blue on the yoke.
- Moss-stitch edgesThe hem and cuffs are 6 rounds of moss stitch, and the neckband is moss stitch with a stocking-stitch facing folded to the inside.
