Good to know

Bros — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. Both are still made by Ístex: golden yellow (1424) and white (0001), both Plötulopi. Our shop calls 1424 golden yellow heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Four baby sizes, named after the child’s height: 74, 80, 86 and 92 cm. The chest is 55, 59, 63 and 67 cm all the way round, a little wider at the hem — 59 to 71 cm — with 14 to 20 cm from the hem to the underarm and sleeves of 16 to 22 cm to the underarm. The pattern prints no ages.
How much yarn do I need?
One 100 g plate of golden yellow (1424) and one of white (0001) Plötulopi, in every size. The cardigan is knitted with a single strand on 4 mm needles — 20 stitches to 10 cm.
Is the yoke knitted in the round?
No. After the sleeves are joined, the yoke is knitted back and forth like the body, so the colour pattern is also knitted on the wrong-side (purl) rows. Some of the chart’s decrease rows fall on wrong-side rows too, and the pattern does not say how to work them there; a purl decrease that slants the same way does it (our reading).
How does it fasten?
With five buttons. Bands are picked up along both fronts and knitted in 5 rows of K1, P1 rib — golden yellow along the body, white along the yoke. The buttonholes (yarn over, knit 2 together) are in the third row of the left band: the first at the neckband, the last just above the hem rib, the others evenly between. The pattern gives no button size.
What else do I need?
The pattern lists a 4 mm (US 6) and a 3 mm (US 2½) circular needle, both 60 cm, 3 mm and 4 mm double-pointed needles and 5 buttons. The instructions also use stitch holders for the underarm stitches, 2 stitch markers and a tapestry needle for grafting, which the list leaves out.
How do I wash it?
The pattern says to rinse the cardigan carefully by hand in lukewarm water, not to let the Plötulopi soak, and to lay it flat to dry to the right measurements.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The cardigan is, in the pattern’s own colours. The dark jeans, the white trainers, the cream cloth and the soap bubbles are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with the sizes, materials, gauge, a photo and the instructions for the sleeves, body, yoke, neckband and right front band; a page with the left front band, the finishing, the yoke chart and the colour key; and Ístex’s back cover.
