Good to know

Austur — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. Chocolate (0867), white (0051) and light beige (0086) are all still made by Ístex as Álafosslopi. The leaflet shortens light beige to “l beige”, and our shop calls 0867 chocolate heather and 0086 light beige heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — XS, S, M/L and XL — with a chest of 80, 92, 105 and 111 cm all the way round, 40, 42, 45 and 46 cm from the hem to the underarm, and sleeves of 48, 49, 51 and 52 cm to the underarm.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls: chocolate (A) 6 (6, 7, 7), white (B) 2 in every size and light beige (C) 1 (1, 2, 2) — 9 (9, 11, 11) balls.
How many reindeer are there?
One in each 16-stitch repeat of the yoke chart: 10 in XS, 11 in S, 12 in M/L and 13 in XL (our count). They are chocolate, with antlers, on the white part of the yoke.
How is the yoke worked?
After body and sleeves are joined there are 160 (176, 192, 208) stitches. The 40-round chart is worked in the round with five decrease rounds — two stitches in each 16-stitch repeat on rounds 18, 26, 33, 36 and 40 — down to 60 (66, 72, 78). XS leaves out rounds 2, 3, 4, 35 and 39, S rounds 2, 3, 35 and 39, and M/L rounds 2 and 35; XL works every round. Then comes the neckline: one round with decreases on the 4.5 mm circular, and 5 cm of K1, P1 rib.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things. The sleeves say “k1 row” where a round is meant. The neckline colour is not named; in the photo it is chocolate. The neckline goes on the 4.5 mm circular — the list has only a 60 cm one — with 58 to 68 stitches; the 4.5 mm double-pointed needles from the sleeves may be easier (our suggestion). The list leaves out stitch holders and a tapestry needle. Chart 1 puts a light beige zigzag above the white one; on the sweater in the photo only the white zigzag shows at the hem and cuffs.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The sweater is. The blue jeans are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, materials, gauge, notes, the body, sleeves, yoke, neckline and finishing, chart 1 and the colour key; a page with chart 2, the yoke; and Ístex’s back cover.
