Good to know

Ás — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Seven of the eight are still made by Ístex: Álafosslopi space blue (1233), golden (9964), burnt orange (1236), dusk red (1238), happy red (0047), light denim (0008) and garden green (1231). Gloxinia (1241), the purple band, is no longer made; our Ás kit uses 0163 dark soft purple in its place. Our shop calls 9964 golden heather and 0008 light denim heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, S to XXL, with a chest of 92, 98, 105, 111 and 117 cm all the way round; it matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge to within half a centimetre (our check). The body is 42 to 46 cm from the hem to the underarm and the sleeves 49 to 53 cm. Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls: space blue (A) 6 (7, 7, 8, 8), and one ball each of the seven other colours in every size — 13 (14, 14, 15, 15) balls in all.
Where do the colours go?
Only in the yoke, from one 42-round chart; body and sleeves are plain space blue. From the bottom: two rounds of space blue, then golden, gloxinia, burnt orange and dusk red, each joined to the next by two rounds of small checks; small space-blue shapes on dusk red and then on happy red; two plain rounds of happy red and a round of light-denim dots on it; four rounds of small garden-green and light-denim motifs; a round of light-denim dots on space blue; and space blue to the neck. No round has more than two colours, except two of the green-and-light-denim rounds, which have three.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Only small things. The stitch counts all add up (our check). In the yoke text “8 (8, 9 10, 10)” is missing a comma, and the chart’s count at round 23 has a stray comma before 152. The materials list leaves out stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The sweater is. The dark jeans and the red vehicle behind him are not. The PDF has one photo, on the cover and again small on page 2.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, materials, gauge, notes, all the instructions, the yoke chart and the colour key; a blank page; and Ístex’s back cover.
