Good to know

Ankeri — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes — all seven are still made by Ístex as Einband: navy (0118), cardinal (9009), white (0851), light grey (1027) and vivid blue (1098) for the pullover; light grey (1027), navy (0118), white (0851), flame red (1770), cardinal (9009) and grey (9102) for the cardigan. Our shop calls 1027 ash heather and 9102 grey heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which version is in the photos?
The navy one is the pullover and the light grey one the cardigan. The pattern’s cover shows the two together; the two photos here are from Ístex’s photo set for the pattern, not the PDF.
Which size should I knit?
Three sizes — S, M and L — with a chest of 86, 94 and 103 cm all the way round, 38, 39 and 40 cm from the hem to the underarm, and sleeves of 42, 43 and 45 cm to the underarm. The sizes are the same for both versions.
How much yarn do I need?
Einband in 50 g balls. Pullover: navy (A) 4 (4, 5) and one ball each of cardinal, white, light grey and vivid blue — 8 (8, 9) balls. Cardigan: light grey (A) 4 (4, 5) and one ball each of navy, white, flame red, cardinal and grey — 9 (9, 10) balls — and 7 (8, 8) buttons.
How is the cardigan opened and finished?
Its hem rib is knitted back and forth with a purl stitch at each edge; then the body is joined in the round, and those 2 purl stitches run up the centre front to the neck. When the knitting is done, sew twice by machine with small straight stitches across the yarn ends through each chain of purl stitches, and cut carefully between the sewn rows. Then, on 3 mm, pick up 2 stitches for every 3 rows along each front and knit 6 rows of K2, P2 rib: the button band starts at the top of the left front; the buttonhole band starts at the bottom of the other front and has a buttonhole — a yarn-over and k2tog — opposite each of the 7 (8, 8) button markers in its third row.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things. The sleeves say to cast on with the 3 mm circular, but 48 to 52 stitches are too few for a 60 cm needle; the 3 mm double-pointed needles in the list fit (our reading). For the cardigan’s buttonhole band the text says to pick up stitches “in the same manner as for the right front piece”, but the band before it is on the left front — by our reading it means the same way as that band. In the cardigan chart, the repeat next to the front edge has no decrease in round 38 (our reading of the chart); the printed stitch counts allow for that. The list leaves out stitch holders, markers, a tapestry needle and, for the cardigan, a sewing machine.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The pullover and the cardigan are; the buttons are in the pattern’s list but are not included. The navy dress with its belt, the white tights, the grey jeans and the trainers are not part of the pattern.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of both versions; a page with a small photo, the sizes, the materials for both, gauge, and the pullover’s notes, body, sleeves, colour key and chart; a page with the pullover’s yoke, neckline and finishing and the cardigan’s notes, body, colour key and chart; and a page with the cardigan’s sleeves, yoke, neckline, finishing and front bands, and Ístex’s address.
