Aftur is a free Icelandic sweater knitting pattern by Védís Jónsdóttir: an oatmeal Léttlopi pullover with a round yoke in black heather, white, mustard, crimson red and orange. It is the sweater Scarlett Johansson wears in the film We Bought a Zoo (2011). The leaflet also gives Taska, a small bag knitted in the same six colours.
About the Aftur sweater pattern
- Five sizes, XS to XL: chest 91, 95, 100, 104 and 108 cm all the way round.
- Length to the centre front neck edge 56 to 60 cm; sleeves 45 to 49 cm to the underarm.
- Léttlopi, 50 g balls: 7, 8, 8, 9 or 10 balls of oatmeal and one ball of each yoke colour.
- Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm on 4½ mm needles, with 4 mm needles for the edges.
Instead of ribbing, the hem and cuffs start with 6 rounds of moss stitch. The neckband is 7 rounds of moss stitch, a purl round and 6 rounds of stocking stitch, folded to the inside. The bag is 22 × 26 cm with a 120 cm garter-stitch strap and one button.
Two of the pattern’s colours, 9264 mustard and 1410 orange, are no longer made by Ístex.
Knit it from a kit
The Aftur kit has the pattern and 15 balls of Léttlopi, enough for size XL. It uses 9426 golden heather for mustard and 1704 apricot for orange; the other four colours are the pattern’s own. Yarn and button for the bag are not included.
