This free horse knitting pattern is a Léttlopi lopapeysa by Jóhanna Hjaltadóttir, with a band of horses knitted in black heather on white around the yoke. The main colour is either 0053 acorn heather or 0057 grey heather, and the one pattern covers a child, a woman and a man.
About the horse knitting pattern
- Three sizes: children’s (marked 128 cm), women’s and men’s, with a chest of 86, 109 and 119 cm all the way round.
- Léttlopi, 50 g balls: main colour 5, 8 or 10 balls; 0051 white 2, 3 or 3; 0005 black heather 1, 2 or 2.
- Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm on 5 mm needles, with 3½ mm needles for the rib.
Body and sleeves are knitted in the round from the rib up, then joined for the yoke, where the horses and the decreases are worked from one chart. The chart marks where each size begins. The neckband is knit 1, purl 1 rib with a purl round in the middle, folded to the inside.

We have a kit for each main colour the pattern names: the grey heather kit and the acorn heather kit. Each has the pattern and 15 balls of Léttlopi, the amounts for the men’s size: 10 of the main colour, 3 white and 2 black heather. So one kit covers any of the three sizes.
