The body is cast on with 89 (93, 97, 101) stitches on the circular needle and knitted back and forth in one piece: 6 cm of moss stitch, then stocking stitch with the first and last 5 stitches in moss stitch for the front borders. It is decreased by 2 stitches at each side at 30 (32, 34, 36) cm and again at 50 (52, 54, 56) cm, to 81 (85, 89, 93), and knitted to 66 (67, 68, 69) cm “or desired lenght”, as printed; at 36 (37, 38, 39) cm the two pocket openings are marked by knitting 12 stitches with waste yarn and knitting them again with the coat yarn. The sleeves are cast on with 24 (24, 26, 26) stitches on double-pointed needles and knitted in the round: 10 cm of moss stitch and 5 cm of stocking stitch, then decreased by 2 stitches once and increased by 2 stitches after every 9 (7, 6, 6) cm, to 28 (30, 34, 34), and knitted to 48 (49, 50, 50) cm. Body and sleeves are joined for the yoke, 113 (121, 129, 133) stitches, with 6 (6, 8, 8) stitches at each underarm left on holders, and the yoke is knitted back and forth with three kinds of decrease rows — 4 stitches on the body only, 8 on the body and sleeves, or 12 with the middle of each sleeve as well — to 41 stitches. The collar is 22 cm of moss stitch on those 41 stitches, bound off loosely. For each pocket the waste yarn is picked out: the lower stitches get 5 cm of moss stitch for the pocket edge, the upper stitches 18 cm of stocking stitch for the lining, which is sewn to the inside. Three crochet chains of two strands, about 5 cm long, are folded into loops on the left front edge — the lowest level with the pocket lining, the top one where the collar begins and the third between them — with buttons on the right front to match, and the underarms are joined. Hödd, the beret: 40 stitches are cast on with both colours held together on the double-pointed needles and knitted in knit 1, purl 1 rib in the round for 10 cm; then with one strand of B only, two stitches are knitted into each knit stitch and one into each purl stitch, to 60 stitches, and 10 cm of stocking stitch follows; five decrease rounds take it to 10 stitches, which are drawn together.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 24 (nos. 1 and 2), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/Ylja_Long_Cardigan_Sweater_knitting_kit_Icelandic_1da84866-192e-4a29-8a27-65e97aceab12.jpg?v=1791035054
