The sweater is covered from the hem to the chest, and on the sleeves, in narrow stranded bands — little flowers, zigzags, stripes and small squares in eight colours, mostly on navy blue — with a plain pink upper body and light red moss-stitch edges. The hat is pink, with a folded navy rib brim and one seven-round band from the sweater’s chart. Sweater sizes 3 to 7; the hat is children’s size 3–6. Three of the eight colours are no longer made — light red (1408), sun yellow (1411) and lilac (1413); of these the hat uses only sun yellow.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Both patterns in the leaflet — No. 11, the sweater, and No. 12, the hat

Sweater in sizes 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7; hat in children’s size 3–6

Two colour charts, for the sleeves and the body — the hat uses seven rounds of the body chart

Yarn and needles are not included. The pattern’s lists name only the yarn and the needles.

How it is knitted
Sweater: the body is knitted in the round from the hem up — cast on in navy blue, 1 round of light red, then 3 (3, 4, 4, 4) rounds of light red moss stitch on 3.5 mm. On 4.5 mm comes the 63-round body chart — little flowers, stripes, zigzags, small squares and key shapes in all eight colours; most rounds use two colours, a few use three — and then plain pink up to the armholes. There the body is divided into back and front, stitches are cast off at each side for the armholes, and the two pieces are knitted back and forth in pink; the front has a round neck, the back is cast off straight. There is no yoke. The sleeves are knitted in the round from the cuff, with the same light red edge, their own 71-round chart and 2 stitches increased every 7th round, then finished in pink. The shoulders are joined and the sleeves sewn into the straight armholes from the right side. The neckband is picked up in light red: 2 rounds of moss stitch, 2 of K1, P1 rib and a last round of rib in navy blue. Hat: knitted in the round from the brim up. 80 stitches are cast on in navy blue on the 3.5 mm circular and knitted in K1, P1 rib for 14 rounds. On 4.5 mm come 4 plain rounds (navy in the photo — the pattern does not name the colour), then a 7-round band from the body chart and 14 rounds of plain pink. The crown is decreased 8 stitches at a time in eight steps, with a plain round after each of the first two, down to 16 stitches, and the yarn is drawn through. The rib is folded up at the end.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 25 (nos. 11 and 12), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi25-tyra-cover-1_b10573de-2a66-424b-aa6b-73e3db3d1553.jpg?v=1791000857
