Brooke Nico’s lace cape from Ístex’s 25-year pattern series is knitted from the top down, back and forth, in a single strand of fine Einband in flame red. It begins with a narrow band of a small cable and eyelets across the back of the neck; stitches are picked up along it, and the cape grows outwards in five lace sections, with the same band running down both front edges. Two sizes, S/M and L/XL, each in a short and a long version. One colour, flame red (1770), which Ístex still makes.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Two sizes, S/M and L/XL

Two lengths — short and long

Two charts — the edge band and the lace — both also written out row by row

Yarn and needles are not included. First the back neck edge: a 10-stitch band from chart 1 — a 6-stitch cable crossed twice in every 22 rows, with two diagonal lines of eyelets between the crosses, edged by a purl and a knit stitch at each side — knitted as a strip. Then 69 (109) stitches are picked up along one long edge and 10 from its cast-on end — with the strip’s own 10 stitches, 89 (129) in all — and the cape is knitted in seven sections divided by markers: the chart 1 band at each front edge and five lace sections from chart 2 between them, with one stocking stitch between the sections. Every right-side row adds 10 stitches, and after every 16 rows each lace section takes in two more repeats of the lace; L/XL starts the lace at row 9. The short cape is 80 rows and ends with 489 (529) stitches, the long cape 112 rows and 649 (689) stitches. Bind off loosely knitwise, rinse by hand and block to the measurements.

Design: Brooke Nico — pattern from Ístex 25 years (no. 7), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/istex25-tulipanar-1_b76288ee-bbaf-4e81-9a36-aa19cf105bf8.jpg?v=1791006031
