Védís Jónsdóttir’s children’s sweater from Ístex’s Lopi 26, in its red version: crimson red Léttlopi with a round yoke on black — small glacier blue crosses, spring green arrows, big pink motifs, a band of yellow, and glacier blue again by the neck. The cuffs and the neck finish with a rolled edge in pink heather. Body and sleeves are knitted in the round from the bottom up and joined for the yoke. The pattern’s sun yellow (1411) is no longer made; this kit has 1703 mimosa in its place.

Included

Icelandic Léttlopi wool yarn — yarn for the largest size is included, so every size is covered

Knitting pattern in English (PDF) — emailed right after purchase

ADDI knitting needles — only if you choose the kit with needles

Léttlopi — 50 g balls · ages 2 (4 6 8) years
A 9434 Crimson Red — 4 (4 5 6)
B 0059 Black — 1 (1 1 1)
C 1404 Glacier Blue — 1 (1 1 1)
D 1406 Spring Green Heather — 1 (1 1 1)
E 1412 Pink Heather — 1 (1 1 1)
F 1703 Mimosa (in place of 1411 sun yellow) — 1 (1 1 1)

Sizes

2 yrs

4 yrs

6 yrs

8 yrs

Chest

63 cm
24¾″

70 cm
27½″

76 cm
30″

83 cm
32¾″

Length to underarm

24 cm
9½″

27 cm
10¾″

30 cm
11¾″

33 cm
13″

Sleeve length to underarm

24 cm
9½″

27 cm
10¾″

30 cm
11¾″

33 cm
13″

Gauge
18 sts × 24 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 4.5 mm needles.

Needles used in the pattern (included when you choose the kit with needles)
3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles, 60–70 cm — the kit with needles has 60 cm
3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.5 mm (US 7) double-pointed needles, for the cuffs, sleeves and neckband — and the 4.5 mm ones for the top of the yoke when the round gets too small for the circular (see the FAQ)

Not included
Stitch holders (or scrap yarn) for the underarm stitches, and a tapestry needle to graft them and weave in the ends.

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up. The body starts with K1, P1 rib in crimson red on the 3.5 mm circular and carries on in stocking stitch on 4.5 mm to the underarms. Each sleeve starts on 3.5 mm double-pointed needles with 5 rounds of stocking stitch in pink heather — the rolled edge — then K1, P1 rib in crimson red, and is increased up to the underarm on 4.5 mm. Body and sleeves are joined on the 4.5 mm circular for the round yoke: a 38-round chart with a 6-stitch repeat, motifs on black, and four decrease rounds — from 180 (192) 204 (216) stitches down to 60 (64) 68 (72). The smaller sizes leave out a few marked rounds, and never more than two colours are used in a round. The neckband is one decrease round and K1, P1 rib in crimson red on 3.5 mm double-pointed needles, then 5 rounds of stocking stitch in pink heather that roll over, cast off loosely. Last, the underarm stitches are grafted.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 26 (no. 23), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi26-thida-cover-1_07124162-670d-48df-9746-d6698b7f062c.jpg?v=1790994256
