Védís Jónsdóttir’s round-yoke sweater for children from Ístex’s Lopi 26, knitted in Léttlopi in the round from the bottom up. The yoke has rows of small crosses, arrows, big rounded motifs and a yellow band, with the cross colour again by the neck, and the cuffs and the neck finish with a rolled edge in a contrast colour. The pattern has two colour versions with the same amounts, in sizes 2 to 8 years: red — crimson red with a black yoke of glacier blue, spring green, pink and sun yellow, and pink rolled edges — and blue — heaven blue with a navy blue yoke of spring green, orange, light red and sun yellow, and navy rolled edges. Sun yellow (1411) is no longer made, nor are the blue version’s orange (1410) and light red (1408); every other colour still is.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Two colour versions — red and blue

Sizes 2, 4, 6 and 8 years

The 38-round yoke chart, with a colour key for both versions

Yarn and needles are not included. The body starts with 3 (3, 4, 4) cm of K1, P1 rib in A on the 3.5 mm circular and carries on in stocking stitch on 4.5 mm to the underarms. Each sleeve starts on 3.5 mm double-pointed needles with 5 rounds of stocking stitch in the edge colour — pink (E) for the red sweater, navy blue (B) for the blue — which roll over, then K1, P1 rib in A, and is increased up to the underarm on 4.5 mm. Body and sleeves are joined on the 4.5 mm circular for the round yoke: a 38-round chart with a 6-stitch repeat that starts in A and then has motifs on a B ground, with four decrease rounds that take it from 180 (192, 204, 216) stitches down to 60 (64, 68, 72). The smaller sizes leave out a few marked rounds, and never more than two colours are used in a round. The neckband is one decrease round in A and K1, P1 rib on 3.5 mm double-pointed needles, then 5 rounds of stocking stitch in the edge colour that roll over, cast off loosely. Last, the underarm stitches are grafted.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 26 (no. 23), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi26-thida-cover-1_d877838d-013d-4cc2-a399-38eb77178059.jpg?v=1791008021
