teikn-red-childrens-dress-knitting-kit
Teikn — Red Children’s Yoke Dress Knitting Kit

Teikn — signs. Védís Jónsdóttir’s little girl’s dress from Ístex’s Lopi 28, in its red version: a sleeveless A-line dress in red Léttlopi with a round yoke of white figures — on red they read as interlocking loops — a matching white band above the moss-stitch hem, little moss-stitch cap sleeves and a button at the neck. It is a different pattern from our Teikn children’s sweater (Lopi 34). The pattern’s light red (1408), the main colour, is no longer made; this kit has 9434 crimson red in its place, so the whole dress is crimson red.

Included

Icelandic Léttlopi wool yarn — yarn for the largest size is included, so every size is covered

Knitting pattern in English (PDF) — emailed right after purchase

ADDI knitting needles — only if you choose the kit with needles

Léttlopi — 50 g balls · ages 2 (3 4 5) years
A 9434 Crimson Red (in place of 1408 light red) — 3 (3 4 4)
B 0051 White — 1 (1 1 1)

Sizes

2 yrs

3 yrs

4 yrs

5 yrs

Chest

58 cm
22¾″

62 cm
24½″

66 cm
26″

71 cm
28″

Length to underarm

30 cm
11¾″

34 cm
13½″

38 cm
15″

42 cm
16½″

Gauge
18 sts × 24 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 4.5 mm needles.

Needles used in the pattern (included when you choose the kit with needles)
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles, 40 and 60 cm
3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle, 60 cm, for the moss-stitch hem
3.5 mm (US 4) double-pointed needles for the neckband, and 4.5 mm (US 7) double-pointed needles for the top of the yoke

Not included
1 little button (the pattern gives no size), a 3.5 mm crochet hook for the button loop, stitch markers, and a tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the hem up, in one piece. 136 (144) 160 (168) stitches are cast on in crimson red on the 3.5 mm circular and knitted in moss stitch for 4–5 rounds; on 4.5 mm comes a 9-round border chart — white figures on crimson red — then plain stocking stitch. Eight stitches are decreased evenly four times on the way up (five times in sizes 4 and 5), so the dress narrows from the hem to the chest. At the underarms 6 to 9 stitches are bound off on each side, and in the next round 35 to 38 new stitches are cast on over each shoulder; these are knitted in moss stitch for 3 rounds and make the little cap sleeves. After 3 stitches are increased over each shoulder, the round yoke is knitted from a 29-round chart — rows of white figures on crimson red — with five decrease rounds. The neckband is 1 round with a few decreases and 3 rows of moss stitch on 3.5 mm double-pointed needles, knitted back and forth to leave a short opening, which closes with a crocheted chain loop and one little button.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 28 (no. 10), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi28-teikn-1_b7432449-7be0-4c01-8108-7db8b623516b.jpg?v=1790986164
