sneid-round-seat-cushion-knitting-pattern
Sneið — Round Seat Cushion Knitting Pattern

Védís Jónsdóttir’s round seat cushion from Ístex’s Lopi 29 is knitted in Álafosslopi from two circles, each started in the middle with a crochet hook and knitted outwards in the round. Increases on both sides of the eight centre stitches make an octagon with eight lines running out to the edge, and those lines are sewn over with backstitch afterwards. As printed, one side is grey — a black heather centre, then grey and ash — and the other green, with teal and chartreuse; both end in a small black heather sawtooth edge. The circles are grafted together round a cushion pad, 40 cm across. All five colours are still made.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

One cushion, 40 cm across — a grey side and a green side, as printed

One small chart for the edge, with a key

Yarn, needles and the cushion pad are not included. With A and the crochet hook you make 8 stitches in a ring (a circle cast-on), move them to double-pointed needles, close the ring and knit one round. Then, on every 4th round, nine times, each of the 8 centre stitches gets a “double lifted increase” on both sides — 16 more stitches each time — until there are 152; you change to the circular needles as the circle grows. The first circle changes from A to B after the 4th increase and to C after the 7th, then works the 4-round edge chart in C and A; the second circle does the same with D and E. With A you sew backstitch along the eight increase lines from the centre out, graft the two circles together leaving an opening, rinse the cover by hand and dry it flat, put the cushion inside and graft the opening closed. Crocheted chain cords tie it to a chair, or it can be used as a pillow.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 29 (no. 22), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/Grey_Chair_Seat_Cushion_crochet_and_Knitting_kit_Icelandic_d88af5b9-5f05-405b-82fe-bc22845e96d7.jpg?v=1791027821
