It is knitted back and forth from the neck down: a close rib in three strands of Plötulopi, then six strands and finally nine, on needles growing from 6.5 to 12 mm, so the collar flares out over the shoulders on the same number of stitches. Five buttons close the front on crocheted loops. One colour, two sizes, S/M and L/XL; plum heather (1428) is still made.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Two sizes, S/M and L/XL

How to wind the plates into 3-ply balls and hold them 6- and 9-ply

The crocheted front edges with the button loops

Yarn and needles are not included. The pattern gives no button size; the loops are chained to fit the buttons you choose.

How it is knitted
Knitted back and forth from the neck down. First the plates are wound: three strands together, softly, into 3 balls of different sizes — one ball is 3-ply, two together 6-ply and all three 9-ply. 78 (82) stitches are cast on in 3-ply on 6.5 mm for 16 rows of 2×2 rib (k2, p2), then a decrease row to 59 (62) stitches, 12 rows of 2×1 rib (k2, p1) and an increase row back to 78 (82). Next come 10 rows of 2×2 rib in 6-ply on 10 mm and 10 rows in 9-ply on 12 mm — the stitch count stays the same, so the thicker yarn and bigger needles make the collar flare over the shoulders. It is bound off very loosely in rib. With the crochet hook and 3-ply, a row of single crochet goes up each front edge from the lower edge, with five chain loops for the buttons on the right edge: three evenly spaced on the thick part, one at the end of the 2×1 rib and one at the end of the collar.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 28 (no. 18), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi28-ru-1_446a81bd-73fe-411b-8e37-3a7bb01b9f5e.jpg?v=1790998454
