Five cables run up the cape between moss-stitch edges, two slits let the arms through, and the round yoke is stranded in midnight blue, fuchsia, golden, amber and chartreuse. The yoke is knitted in the round and cut open at the front for the zip. The pattern’s sapphire blue (9968), the main colour, is no longer made; this kit has 1233 space blue in its place.

Included

Icelandic Álafosslopi wool yarn — yarn for the largest size is included, so every size is covered

Knitting pattern in English (PDF) — emailed right after purchase

ADDI knitting needles — only if you choose the kit with needles

Álafosslopi — 100 g balls · sizes S (M L)
A 1233 Space Blue (in place of 9968 sapphire blue) — 5 (5 6)
B 0709 Midnight Blue — 1 (1 1)
C 9969 Fuchsia Heather — 1 (1 1)
D 9964 Golden Heather — 1 (1 1)
E 9971 Amber Heather — 1 (1 1)
F 9965 Chartreuse Green Heather — 1 (1 1)

Sizes

S

M

L

Around the lower edge

166 cm
65¼″

175 cm
69″

184 cm
72½″

Length to neckline

54 cm
21¼″

56 cm
22″

58 cm
22¾″

Gauge
13 sts × 18 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 6 mm needles.

Needles used in the pattern (included when you choose the kit with needles)
6 mm (US 10) circular needles, 40 and 60–80 cm — the kit with needles has 40 and 80 cm
5 mm (US 8) circular needle, 80 cm, for the cast-on and the moss-stitch border
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle, 40 cm, for the neckband

Not included
A two-way separating zip (“zipper with 2 slides” — the pattern gives no length), a cable needle, a sewing machine and matching thread for the steek and the zip, and a tapestry needle.

How it is knitted
The cape is knitted back and forth from the hem on a long circular needle: 5 rows of moss stitch on 5 mm, then stocking stitch on 6 mm with 3 moss stitches at each front edge and five cables — one near each front edge, one at each side and one at the centre back — each a 4-stitch cross between purl stitches. Twelve decrease rows beside the two side cables narrow the cape towards the shoulders, and two 15 cm arm slits, edged in moss stitch, open on the fronts. At 35 (37) 39 cm, 2 stitches are cast on at the front and the yoke is knitted in the round from a 35-round chart with four decrease rounds — bands of zigzags and small motifs in midnight blue, fuchsia, golden, amber and chartreuse, with three rounds of space blue. The neckband is K1, P1 rib on 4.5 mm, knitted back and forth and folded in half to the inside, with the inner half in amber. Finally the 2 front stitches are machine-sewn and cut open, and a two-way zip is sewn in with matching thread from the hem to the collar.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 28 (no. 7), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi28-rosn-1_761fb08a-2196-432f-b528-a5a2f391bd20.jpg?v=1790975365
