Two stitch markers, stitch holders for the underarm stitches, a sewing machine for stitching the steek before it is cut, and a tapestry needle — the instructions use them, but the pattern’s list leaves them out.

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up, with two purled stitches at the centre front — a steek — that are machine-stitched and cut open at the end. The body is cast on in A with 149 (157, 165, 173, 181) stitches on the 4 mm circular and knitted back and forth in garter stitch for 6 rows; on 4½ mm the 2 steek stitches are added and it is joined into a round of 151 (159, 167, 175, 183). Two stitches are decreased at each side at 5, 10 and 15 cm and increased again at 20, 25 and 30 cm, and the body is knitted to 31 (32, 33, 34, 35) cm. Each sleeve starts with the lace cuff: 48 stitches cast on loosely in D on 4½ mm double-pointed needles and 15 rounds of eyelet lace, decreased to 42 in round 9. Then the sleeve is turned and knitted from the wrong side, decreased to 36 (36, 36, 40, 40) stitches, given the 11-round border and continued in A, with 2 stitches increased at the underarm in the first round and then every 7th round 10 (11, 11, 10, 11) times, to 58 (60, 60, 62, 64), and knitted to 47 (48, 49, 50, 51) cm. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke, 227 (235, 243, 251, 259) stitches, and the yoke chart, with six decrease rounds, takes it to 59 (61, 63, 65, 67); sizes XS to L leave out marked rounds, so the chart is 43 (44, 46, 48, 50) rounds. The neckband is knitted back and forth: the two steek stitches are cast off, then come garter-stitch rows with a row of eyelets and 4 rows of stocking stitch, and it is cast off. The steek is machine-stitched and cut, and each front edge gets two rows of single crochet in A, with seven 3-chain button loops on the right front. The underarms are grafted, the cardigan is rinsed by hand and laid flat to dry, and the buttons are sewn on.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 26 (no. 24), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/old_095f502b-d907-4fc4-89ae-2524d8bd0397.jpg?v=1791034420
