Guðrún Ragna Sigurjónsdóttir’s children’s V-neck cardigan from Ístex’s Lopi 32, for ages 2 to 10, knitted flat in Léttlopi in separate pieces and sewn together. Diagonal lines and framed diamonds are knitted in intarsia across the upper back and fronts, above a border of crosses at the hem; the rib front bands are knitted with the fronts and carry on round the back of the neck, and the sleeves are plain. The pattern has two colour versions from the same charts — grey, light ash with rust heather bands and lines and small sun yellow and white diamonds, and black, with brick heather lines and crimson red diamonds framed in white. Sun yellow (1411), in the grey version, is no longer made; the other colours in both versions are.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Two colour versions — grey and black

Five sizes, ages 2 to 10

Charts for the back and the fronts, for ages 2–6 and 8–10, with a key for both versions

Yarn and needles are not included. You will also want a tapestry needle for sewing the pieces together and weaving in the ends, and bobbins for the intarsia if you like to use them.

How it is knitted
The back and both fronts are knitted flat, as separate pieces, from 3 cm of K1, P1 rib on 4 mm needles (for the rib colour, see the questions below). On 4.5 mm comes chart 1, a 9-row border of crosses, then plain stocking stitch in the main colour to 23 (23, 23, 31, 30) cm, then diagonal lines and diamonds in intarsia — chart 2 on the back, chart 3 on the fronts — with the armholes and shoulders bound off in steps as the charts show. Each front keeps its outermost 10 stitches in rib all the way up as a front band, and the V-neck is decreased just inside the band every 4th row; the left front band has 5 (5, 5, 5, 6) buttonholes. After the shoulder is bound off, the band carries on for 4½ (4½, 5, 5½, 5½) cm, and the two band ends are joined at the centre back of the neck and sewn to the back neck. The sleeves are plain: knitted in the round on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles from a 6 cm rib cuff, increased every 6th round, then knitted back and forth for a shaped cap. The shoulders and sides are sewn together and the sleeves sewn in, all from the right side, and the buttons are sewn on last.

Design: Guðrún Ragna Sigurjónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 32 (no. 8), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi32-nordur-1_095792a8-3fb2-465e-8f49-1616756e69fa.jpg?v=1790999235
