Every round is worked twice, once in each colour, so one face shows orange ribs and the other red — the pattern calls it a perfect double face, and its photos show the same sweater worn both ways out. The hem and cuffs are a double layer, the round yoke is decreased along 11 diagonal lines, and the neckband is folded. One colour version, in sizes 36 to 42; it is shown on a young woman. Both of the pattern’s colours, pumpkin (9436) and flame scarlet (9437), are no longer made.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Four sizes — 36, 38, 40 and 42

Every step written out in words; there are no charts

Yarn and needles are not included. The yoke decreases need a spare needle to hold one stitch behind the work — one of the 4.5 mm double-pointed needles will do (our reading).

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up in two-colour brioche rib. Every round is worked twice: first with A, the orange (K1, yarn over and slip 1), then with B, the red (yarn over and slip 1, purl the stitch together with its yarn over). That gives one face with orange ribs and one with red ribs. The hem and cuffs are a double layer: 12 rounds of stocking stitch in A, then 12 rounds in B picked up from the cast-on edge; the two layers are joined in the first brioche round, A outside. The sleeves are cast on with 38 (38, 40, 40) stitches and increased every 6th round, alternately at the start and the end of the round, to 60 (60, 62, 62). The body is cast on with 154 (156, 158, 160) stitches and knitted for 32 (33, 34, 36) cm of brioche, and 12 stitches are cast off at each underarm. Body and sleeves are joined for a round yoke of 226 (228, 234, 236) stitches, shaped by brioche decreases along 11 lines — the diagonal lines in the photos — down to 66 stitches in every size. The neckband is 12 rounds of A, then a purl round and 11 rounds of B, folded to the inside and sewn to the last brioche round. Last, the underarms are joined: the held sleeve stitches are sewn to the cast-off body stitches (our reading).

Design: Monika Trimmel — pattern from Lopi No. 24 (no. 11), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi24-nonn-1_65f61085-5cbd-4277-8808-bd3f948a878e.jpg?v=1791000458
