The rest is crocheted with the 4.5 mm hook in a spiral from one edge of the band: two rounds of single crochet, then double crochet — 6 rounds on the cap, 5 on the mittens — decreased and drawn together at the top. The mittens have a thumb hole of 4 chains, about 8 more rounds to cover the little finger, and a thumb of 5 rounds crocheted into the hole. The fingerless mittens follow the mittens to just past the thumb hole, then, in the pattern’s words, “Dc5 rnds together” and finish with a half double crochet, a single crochet and a slip stitch; they have no thumb.
