No. 38, the pullover: the body is cast on with 118 (128, 136, 144) stitches in ash heather on the 4½ mm circular, knitted in K1, P1 rib for 6 (6, 7, 7) cm and increased to 130 (140, 150, 160); on 6 mm comes the 10-round border chart, then ash heather to 40 (42, 43, 44) cm. The sleeves are cast on with 30 (30, 32, 32) stitches on 4½ mm double-pointed needles, knitted in the same rib and increased to 40 (40, 46, 46); on 6 mm they get the border, with 1 stitch increased at each end of chart round 9, and then 1 stitch at each end of every 8th round for women or every 9th for men, 6 (7, 6, 7) times, to 54 (56, 60, 62). They are knitted to 43 (43, 45, 45) cm for women or 48 (48, 50, 50) cm for men. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke — 210 (220, 230, 240) stitches — and the 43-round yoke chart, with six decrease rounds, takes it down to 84 (88, 92, 96); sizes S to L leave out marked rounds — S five, M four and L two — and XL knits all 43. The neckband is 8 cm of K1, P1 rib on 4½ mm double-pointed needles, decreased on the first round to 54 (54, 56, 58) stitches, cast off loosely, folded in half to the inside and slip-stitched. No. 39, the cardigan: the border is cast on with 141 (149, 157) stitches in midnight blue on the 4½ mm circular and knitted back and forth in moss stitch — 3 rows, a row with a buttonhole 2 stitches from the edge, and a row that casts the stitch on again. The 5 stitches at each end go on holders for the front bands; the rest are increased by 3, to 134 (142, 150), and on 6 mm 2 stitches are cast on that are purled every round at the centre front. The body is joined into a round and knitted plain in midnight blue — there is no border on the body — to 43 (44, 45) cm. The sleeves are cast on with 34 stitches in every size on 4½ mm double-pointed needles, knitted in moss stitch for 5 rounds and increased to 40; on 6 mm comes the 13-round cuff chart, and then in midnight blue 1 stitch is increased at each end of the 3rd round and after that of every 6th round, 6 (7, 9) times, to 54 (56, 60), and the sleeve is knitted to 40 (41, 43) cm. The yoke is joined with a purl stitch at each front edge — 203 (213, 223) stitches — and the 41-round yoke chart, with six decrease rounds, takes it down to 83 (87, 91); sizes S and M leave out marked rounds — S three and M two — and L knits all 41. Two rows of machine stitching are sewn in the centre of each column of purl stitches, and the front is cut between them once the button band is knitted. The bands are the 5 moss stitches from the holders with 3 stitches of stocking-stitch facing, knitted on a 4½ mm needle until, slightly stretched, they reach the neckline; each is sewn on and its facing slip-stitched over the cut edge. The buttons go on the left front and the buttonholes on the right. The neckband is knitted back and forth in moss stitch across the bands and the yoke, decreased to 63 (63, 67) stitches, with one more buttonhole, and cast off in moss stitch. In both, the underarm stitches are grafted.

Adapted by Védís Jónsdóttir — patterns from Lopi No. 18 (nos. 38 and 39), Ístex.
