The body and sleeves are red fire tweed, with five rounds of moss stitch at the hem and cuffs and a tall K1, P1 rib collar that stands up. The yoke is midnight blue, banded in five bright colours — grass, aquamarine, goldenrod, copper and bright fuchsia — in small zigzags, dots, arches and diamonds, and the same bands make a border above the cuffs. One colour version, four sizes from XS to L, 66 to 72 cm long to the front neck. Six of the seven colours are no longer made — fire tweed (9738), grass (9301), aquamarine (9214), goldenrod (9213), copper (9384) and bright fuchsia (9010); midnight blue (0709) still is.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Four sizes, XS to L

Two charts — the border above the cuffs and the yoke — with the band colours printed beside them

Yarn and needles are not included. The body is cast on with 128 (134, 140, 146) stitches in fire tweed on the 5 mm circular, knitted in moss stitch for 5 rounds, increased to 132 (138, 144, 150) stitches on 6 mm and knitted in plain stocking stitch to 43 (44, 45, 46) cm — there is no border on the body. The sleeves are cast on with 34 stitches on 5 mm double-pointed needles and knitted in moss stitch for 5 rounds; on 6 mm comes an 18-round border from chart 1 on 36 stitches — midnight blue zigzags with narrow bands of the five bright colours — then fire tweed, increased at the underarm to 52 (54, 56, 60) stitches, to 39 (40, 41, 42) cm. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke — 204 (210, 216, 234) stitches — and a 41-round chart with four decrease rounds takes it down to 68 (70, 72, 78): a midnight blue zigzag rising from the red, then small zigzags, dots, arches and diamonds, band after band up to the neck, in which no round uses more than midnight blue and one bright colour; the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. The collar is 8.5 cm of K1, P1 rib in fire tweed on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, cast off loosely in rib and not folded, so it stands up. The underarm stitches are grafted.

Based on designs from The Handknitting Association of Iceland, adapted by Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 18 (no. 34), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi18-34-cover-1_e3028037-d38d-4ce8-9eb4-844e5944ce51.jpg?v=1791004387
