lopi-18-no-17-brown-yoke-sweater-placket-collar-knitting-kit
Lopi 18 No. 17 — Brown Yoke Sweater with Placket and Collar Knitting Kit

Sunneva Hafsteinsdóttir’s round-yoke sweater from Ístex’s Lopi 18, adapted by Védís Jónsdóttir: a brown Álafosslopi pullover with a yoke of black heather diamonds framed in white, a short opening with three buttons at the front of the yoke, and a deep K2, P2 rib collar, worn folded over in the photo. A matching border sits above the hem and cuffs, and the pattern gives sleeve lengths for women and for men. The pattern’s medium brown tweed (9453) is no longer made; this kit has 0053 acorn heather in its place. It is very close to the warm mid-brown in the photo, but a plain heather, so the small white and black tweed flecks you see in the photo will not be there.

Included

Icelandic Álafosslopi wool yarn — yarn for the largest size is included, so every size is covered

Knitting pattern in English (PDF) — emailed right after purchase

ADDI knitting needles — only if you choose the kit with needles

Álafosslopi — 100 g balls · sizes S (M L XL)
M 0053 Acorn Heather (in place of 9453 medium brown tweed) — 7 (8 8 9)
A 0051 White — 2 (2 2 2)
B 0005 Black Heather — 1 (1 1 1)

Sizes

S

M

L

XL

Chest

100 cm
39¼″

108 cm
42½″

115 cm
45¼″

123 cm
48½″

Length to centre front neck

65 cm
25½″

68 cm
26¾″

70 cm
27½″

72 cm
28¼″

Sleeve to underarm, women

43 cm
17″

43 cm
17″

45 cm
17¾″

45 cm
17¾″

Sleeve to underarm, men

48 cm
19″

48 cm
19″

50 cm
19¾″

50 cm
19¾″

Gauge
13 sts × 18 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 6 mm needles.

Needles used in the pattern (included when you choose the kit with needles)
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle, 80 cm — also used back and forth for the front bands and the collar
6 mm (US 10) circular needles, 40 and 80 cm
4.5 mm double-pointed needles — the kit with needles also has 6 mm double-pointed needles for the sleeves

Not included
3 buttons (the pattern gives no size), a sewing machine and thread to secure the front opening before it is cut, and stitch holders.

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up. Hem and cuffs are K2, P2 rib on 4.5 mm, followed on 6 mm by an 8-round border in white and black heather. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke — a 43-round chart with a band of black heather diamonds framed in white, smaller motifs above and white tulip-like shapes near the neck, with four decrease rounds. After round 16 of the yoke chart, the 5 centre-front stitches go on a holder and a purl stitch is cast on at each side. When the knitting is done, two rows of machine stitching go into each purl stitch and the opening is cut between them. A button band and a buttonhole band, each with a facing that folds over the cut edge, are knitted on 4.5 mm and sewn on. The collar is knitted back and forth across the bands and the yoke: 17 cm of K2, P2 rib, with the third buttonhole in its first rows.

Design: Sunneva Hafsteinsdóttir, adapted by Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 18 (no. 17), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi18-17-1_3fd11667-bce5-431b-8559-664277f4eb51.jpg?v=1790976052
