In the photo it is a red tweed with a bright yoke of zigzags and small diamonds in three marled colours — navy-purple, green and orange-gold — ending in navy-purple spikes towards the neck, the same zigzags above the hem and cuffs, and a folded red neckband. The red is fire tweed Álafosslopi; each of the three pattern colours is two strands of Léttlopi, one of each of two colours, held together and knitted as one — that gives the two-tone look. One colour version. Of its seven colours only navy (9420) is still made: fire tweed (9738), iris (9440), grass (9444), leaf (9441), pumpkin (9436) and goldenrod (9435) are not.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

The matching hat, in two sizes

Five sweater sizes, to fit 110, 122, 134, 140 and 152 cm tall

Three charts — the border above the hem and cuffs, the yoke and the hat band — with the key

Yarn and needles are not included. The body is cast on with 92 (96, 102, 108, 112) stitches in fire tweed on the 4.5 mm circular for 5 (5, 5, 5, 6) cm of K1, P1 rib and increased to 102 (108, 114, 120, 126). On 6 mm comes a 9-round border of small zigzags from chart 1, then fire tweed to 25 (28, 30, 33, 36) cm. The sleeves are cast on with 24 (24, 26, 26, 28) stitches on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, ribbed the same and increased to 36 (36, 36, 36, 42), given the same border on 6 mm double-pointed needles with 2 stitches increased at its end, then increased every 6th round to 44 (46, 48, 50, 52). Each of the three pattern colours is two strands of Léttlopi held together and knitted as one: navy with iris, grass with leaf, and pumpkin with goldenrod. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke — 156 (168, 174, 186, 198) stitches — and a 35-round chart with four decrease rounds takes it down to 52 (56, 58, 62, 66): zigzags and rows of small diamonds, ending in navy-iris spikes towards the neck. The smaller sizes skip marked rounds, and the top of the yoke moves onto the double-pointed needles. The neckband is 7 (7, 7, 8, 8) cm of K1, P1 rib in fire tweed on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, decreased to 50 (50, 50, 52, 52) stitches, cast off loosely, folded in half to the inside and slip-stitched, and the underarm stitches are grafted. The hat is cast on with 66 (72) stitches in fire tweed on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles for an 8 cm K1, P1 brim, then knitted on 6 mm with a 15-round band from chart 3 and a fire tweed crown shaped with paired decreases every other round, drawn together.

Design: Guðrún Sveinsdóttir, adapted by Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 18 (no. 14), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi18-14-cover-1_9d4dc91f-fbe2-4050-bfc8-d131661dd98c.jpg?v=1791007275
https://icelandicstore.is/products/lopi-18-no-14-childrens-red-rainbow-yoke-sweater-and-hat-knitting-pattern
