Five of the pattern’s six colours are no longer made: spruce tweed (0168), the main colour, antique gold (9332), copper (9384), burnt red (9389) and dusty teal (9305), the colour of the rolled edges. This kit has 1231 garden green, 9964 golden heather, 9971 amber heather, 0047 happy red and 1232 arctic exposure in their place; quiet purple (0163) is unchanged. The body is a plain green heather, lighter than in the photo and without the coloured flecks of the original, and the rolled edges are a pale aqua, clearly lighter and bluer than in the photo.

Included

Icelandic Álafosslopi wool yarn — yarn for the largest size is included, so every size is covered

Knitting pattern in English (PDF) — emailed right after purchase

ADDI knitting needles — only if you choose the kit with needles

Álafosslopi — 100 g balls · sizes XS (S M L)
M 1231 Garden Green (in place of 0168 spruce tweed) — 6 (6 7 7)
A 9964 Golden Heather (in place of 9332 antique gold) — 1 (1 1 1)
B 9971 Amber Heather (in place of 9384 copper) — 1 (1 1 1)
C 0047 Happy Red (in place of 9389 burnt red) — 1 (1 1 1)
D 0163 Dark Soft Purple — 1 (1 1 1)
E 1232 Arctic Exposure (in place of 9305 dusty teal) — 1 (1 1 1)

Sizes

XS

S

M

L

Chest

98 cm
38½″

105 cm
41¼″

111 cm
43¾″

117 cm
46″

Length to centre front neck

63 cm
24¾″

66 cm
26″

69 cm
27¼″

71 cm
28″

Sleeve length to underarm

37 cm
14½″

39 cm
15¼″

39 cm
15¼″

41 cm
16¼″

Gauge
13 sts × 18 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 6 mm needles.

Needles used in the pattern (included when you choose the kit with needles)
5 mm (US 8) circular needle, 80 cm, and 5 mm double-pointed needles — for the purl edges
6 mm (US 10) circular needles, 40 and 80 cm
4.5 mm (US 7) double-pointed needles — for the neckband
6 mm double-pointed needles — not in the pattern’s list, but needed for the sleeves; the kit with needles has them

Not included
Stitch holders for the underarm stitches, and a tapestry needle for grafting them and sewing down the neckband.

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up. Body and sleeves start with 7 purl rounds in arctic exposure on 5 mm, which roll to the right side; the pattern knits the body and sleeves 2 cm longer to allow for the roll. On 6 mm comes an 11-round border — blocks of dark soft purple, then happy red and amber heather, topped with small golden crosses — then the body and sleeves in garden green. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke — a 41-round chart with five decrease rounds; the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. The neckband is 9 rounds of K1, P1 rib in garden green on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, then in arctic exposure 1 knit round, 6 purl rounds and 9 rounds of rib. It is folded in half to the inside and sewn down, so the purl rounds form the edge at the neck (our reading). The underarm stitches are grafted.

Design: Anna Árnadóttir, adapted by Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 18 (no. 11), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi18-11-cover-1_2df6d266-0684-4e55-a326-827b358ea0f4.jpg?v=1790998303
