Design 1 is a women’s sweater in red brown with plain edges that roll at the hem and cuffs, in sizes XS to L, with an ear-flap hat to match: its yoke runs through golden green, a dark denim band with small quiet purple points, eggplant, rust, antique gold and putty to a burgundy band and dark denim at the neck. Design 2, for women and men, is loden green with striped ribs and a striped, folded neckband, in sizes XS to XL: a pond heather band with a field zigzag, dark sienna points, a rust band, a putty zigzag with straw points, a chocolate band and a gray fleck band near the neck. Most of the colours are no longer made — all but dark denim (0010) and quiet purple (0163) in Design 1, all but chocolate (0867) in Design 2. Design 1 has no rib: the body is cast on with 132 (138, 144, 150) stitches in M on the 6 mm circular and knitted in stocking stitch to 42 (44, 46, 47) cm, and the sleeves are cast on with 32 (34, 34, 36) stitches on 6 mm double-pointed needles, knitted 3 cm plain and increased every 6th round to 52 (54, 56, 60) stitches. About 2 cm rolls up at the edges, so both are knitted 2 cm longer than the size table. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke — 204 (210, 216, 234) stitches — and a 41-round chart with four decrease rounds takes it down to 68 (70, 72, 78); the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. There the leaflet stops: it gives no neckband, cast-off or making-up for Design 1. Design 2 starts with K1, P1 rib in stripes — 2 rounds each of M, A, B, A and M — on the 4.5 mm circular for the body (118 (124, 130, 136, 140) stitches) and on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles for the sleeves. On 6 mm the body is increased to 132 (138, 144, 150, 156) and knitted to 38 (40, 42, 43, 44) cm, and the sleeves are increased to 40 (42, 42, 46, 46), then every 8th round for women or every 9th for men, to 52 (54, 56, 60, 62). Body and sleeves are joined — 204 (210, 216, 234, 240) stitches — and a 43-round chart with four decrease rounds takes the yoke down to 68 (70, 72, 78, 80). The neckband is knitted on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles: in B, 1 knit round and 1 round of K1, P1 rib with decreases, then 2 rounds of A and 10 of M in rib; it is cast off loosely, folded in half to the inside and slip-stitched, and the underarm stitches are grafted. The hat starts with two ear flaps, each cast on with 5 stitches in B and knitted back and forth in stocking stitch from chart 2, increased to 17. Both flaps and 29 and 15 cast-on stitches between them make 78, joined into a round for 4 rounds of B, a 16-round zigzag band from chart 3, 2 rounds of M and a crown of five decrease rounds in M, drawn together.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — patterns from Lopi No. 18 (nos. 1 and 2), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi18-01-cover-1_8a7b900e-669c-40fe-8c10-0cb67c48b938.jpg?v=1791006582
https://icelandicstore.is/products/lopi-18-no-1-2-zigzag-yoke-sweaters-and-ear-flap-hat-knitting-pattern
