In the photo it is a mid blue, with red twisted rib at the hem and cuffs, a red, black and gold border above the rib, and a deep yoke of gold and black zigzags with a red band in the middle, finished with red rib and a blue roll collar. The same leaflet has a pair of blue mittens with a red ribbed cuff, in three sizes. The leaflet prints only the colour numbers: the black (0059) is still made, but 0098, 9389 and 9332 — cadet blue, burnt red and antique gold in Ístex’s Lopi 18 leaflets — are not.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Five sizes, XS to XL

Sleeve lengths for women and for men

The matching mittens, in sizes S, M and L

Two charts — the border above the hem and cuffs, and the yoke — with the key

Yarn and needles are not included. The body is cast on with 118 (124, 130, 136, 140) stitches in A on the 4.5 mm circular for 6 (6, 6, 7, 7) cm of twisted rib (K1 through the back loop, P1), then increased to 132 (138, 144, 150, 156) on 6 mm. A 9-round border from chart 1 comes next — red and black checks, a black round, then a black and gold zigzag on blue — and the body goes on in M to 38 (40, 42, 43, 44) cm. The sleeves are cast on with 28 (30, 30, 32, 32) stitches in A on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles for the same rib, increased to 42 (42, 42, 48, 48) on 6 mm, given the same border, and increased every 7th round for women or every 8th for men, to 54 (56, 58, 62, 64) stitches. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke — 204 (210, 216, 234, 240) stitches — and a 43-round chart, drawn in sections, with six decrease rounds takes it down to 78 (78, 82, 86, 90): small black and gold motifs on blue, a gold zigzag under a black band, red and black checks, a red band with black zigzag lines, a gold band, and small gold and black motifs and black stripes on blue up to the neck; the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. The neckband is decreased to 54 (54, 56, 58, 60) stitches on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, knitted in A for 3 cm of twisted rib, then in M for 9 cm of stocking stitch and cast off loosely — it rolls over into a roll collar, as in the photo. The underarm stitches are grafted. The mittens are knitted in the round: 22 (24, 28) stitches in M on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, 8 cm of stocking stitch, which rolls back, then 1 round in A and 5 cm of twisted rib, then the hand in M on 6 mm, increased to 24 (26, 30), with a thumb opening knitted over a scrap of contrast yarn and a top decreased at both sides to 8 (10, 10) stitches and drawn together.

Design: Astrid Ellingsen — pattern from Lopi No. 12 (no. 13), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi12-13-cover-1_1fbd848f-57e3-481a-83f0-730d4bc9e5ca.jpg?v=1791000098
https://icelandicstore.is/products/lopi-12-no-13-blue-and-red-yoke-sweater-and-mittens-knitting-pattern
