A women’s button cardigan from Ístex’s Lopi 34, knitted from side to side: the left sleeve, then the body in one piece across the wearer, then the right sleeve — so the pattern bands run up and down, one down each front and three down the back. Two colourways: green — highland green and light beige Álafosslopi, with the dark motifs in two strands of Léttlopi held together, black sheep with rust, stone blue, brick or rose heather — and auburn — sheep sorrel with black, teal heather and amber, all Álafosslopi. The edges are crocheted. Original pattern by Margrét Jóhannesdóttir, redesign by Védís Jónsdóttir; sizes S to XXL. The left sleeve is knitted in the round from the cuff up: K1, P1 rib that starts with three one-round stripes in the contrast colours, then 10 rounds of chart 1, and increases at the underarm to 53 (55, 57, 59, 61) stitches. For the body, 65 (67, 68, 69, 70) stitches are cast on provisionally either side of the sleeve stitches — 183 (189, 193, 197, 201) in all — and the body is knitted in the round across the wearer, with two purled steek stitches at the lower edge: plain rounds, the 23-round chart 2, more plain rounds, then the 7-round chart 3 over the back only, while the front stitches are bound off and cast on again in the middle round to make the front opening. The second half mirrors the first, the side stitches are joined with a three-needle bind-off, and the right sleeve is knitted down to its cuff, with chart 4, as a mirror of the left. The provisional stitches are bound off together in the same way, the lower-edge steek is sewn twice by machine and cut, and the neckline is marked with scrap yarn, sewn by machine and cut. The collar is picked up, 53 (53, 53, 59, 59) stitches, and knitted back and forth: 8 rows, a fold row, 8 rows. Last, four rounds of single crochet are worked round the hem, fronts and collar, with 5–6 buttonholes in the third round on the right front.

Original pattern: Margrét Jóhannesdóttir.
