It is black, with a round yoke of small ash crosses, stone blue bands and a band of stone blue dots framed in ash, and moss-stitch edges at the hem and neck. The body is knitted in the round with decreases and then increases at the sides; at the underarms the front and back are knitted back and forth for 4 rows, and stitches cast on over the shoulders join the yoke in the round. Sizes S to XL. All three colours are still made. The leaflet has no photo; ours show the vest knitted in the pattern’s colours.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

One colourway — black with ash and stone blue

Sizes S, M, L and XL

The yoke chart, with its key

Yarn and needles are not included. The body is cast on with 148 (156, 164, 172) stitches in black on the 3.5 mm circular, joined and knitted in moss stitch for 5 rounds, then in stocking stitch on 4.5 mm with a marker at each side. At 5 cm, and twice more 5 cm apart, 2 stitches are decreased at each marker (SKP, k2tog), to 136 (144, 152, 160); then 2 stitches are increased at each marker with lifted increases three times, 5 cm apart, back to 148 (156, 164, 172). The body goes on to 31 (32, 33, 34) cm. Then 10 (11, 12, 13) stitches are cast off under each arm, and the front and the back are knitted back and forth in stocking stitch for 4 rows. To join the yoke in a circle, 48 (49, 50, 51) stitches are cast on over each shoulder — 224 (232, 240, 248) stitches — and the yoke is knitted from one chart with five decrease rounds, to 84 (87, 90, 93) stitches. Sizes S, M and L leave out rounds 13, 19, 24, 30 and 40, so the chart is 35 (35, 35, 40) rounds. For the neckband you knit 1 round on 3.5 mm, decreasing to 68 (70, 72, 74) stitches, then 4 rounds of moss stitch, and bind off loosely in K1, P1 rib. The pattern’s finishing: weave in the ends, rinse by hand in lukewarm water and lay flat to dry.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir for www.istex.is — from Ístex’s single leaflet “Létt-Lopi vest”.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/9606_Lettlopi_Black_Sweater_Vest_Knitting_Kit_36485e62-80e6-4f31-b5ee-55132e643b71.jpg?v=1791035654
