Védís Jónsdóttir’s leg warmers from Ístex’s Lopi 27, knitted in Léttlopi in the round from the top down: a 5 cm twisted-rib top, a long leg narrowed by decreases at the back, a small flare over the instep and a twisted-rib lower edge. The pattern has two versions in sizes S\/M and L\/XL — Roses, hazel brown with a band of stone blue roses and celery green leaves on black just below the top rib, and Stripe, plain bottle green with an orange top rib. Cast on 56 (60) stitches in A on 3.5 mm and work 5 cm of twisted rib (K1 through the back loop, P1), then change to 4.5 mm. Roses: knit the 13-round band from the chart — stone blue roses and celery green leaves on black — then hazel (A) for 5 (6) cm. Stripe: knit bottle green (B) for 10 (11) cm. Both versions then go on the same way: 2 stitches are decreased at the back of the leg (K2tog at the start of the round, SKP at the end) every 6th round, six times in all, to 44 (48) stitches, and the leg is knitted straight until it measures 32 (34) cm from the cast-on edge, or as long as needed. A marker goes at the centre front, and three increase rounds — M1R and M1L either side of the 2 centre stitches, with 4 plain rounds between them — make 50 (54) stitches and a small flare over the instep. Three rounds of twisted rib finish the lower edge, bound off in rib.
