The body is wider at the hem than at the chest, with folded hems at the lower edge and cuffs, a round yoke and a white rib collar 20 cm deep. It is knitted in the round and cut open at the front, a thin ribbon covers the cut edge inside, and it closes with 5 hooks and bars, or clasps. Two colour versions — Brown (sheep black through browns and beiges to white) and Blue (black through blues to white) — in sizes XS to XL. Two of the blue colours, denim (1052) and faded denim (1053), are no longer made.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Two colour versions — Brown and Blue

Sizes XS, S, M, L and XL

The yoke chart, with a key for both versions

Yarn and needles are not included. Stitch holders for the underarm stitches, a sewing machine with dark and light thread for the steek, and a needle for the hems, the ribbon and grafting — the pattern’s list leaves these out.

How it is knitted
Knitted with two strands of Plötulopi held together throughout, in the round from the bottom up, with a purl stitch at each end of the round at the centre front — the steek — which is machine-sewn and cut open at the end. The colour changes one strand at a time: A+A, A+B, B+C, C+D, D+E and E+F on the body and sleeves, then E+F, F+G and G+G in the yoke chart, and G+G for the collar. The body is cast on with A+A, 162 (170, 178, 186, 194) stitches on the 4½ mm circular, and knitted back and forth for a folded hem — 6 rows of stocking stitch, a purl row from the right side, 6 more rows; on 5½ mm, 2 purl stitches are cast on and the body is joined into a round of 164 (172, 180, 188, 196). The colour bands follow, at lengths given for each size, and after each of the A+B, B+C, C+D and D+E bands 8 stitches are decreased — on each front, at both sides and on the back, at places marked the first time — to 132 (140, 148, 156, 164); E+F goes up to 60 (62, 64, 66, 68) cm from the purl row. The sleeves are cast on with A+A, 34 (34, 36, 38, 40) stitches on 4½ mm double-pointed needles, with the same folded hem knitted in rounds, then knitted on 5½ mm with 2 stitches increased every 12th (12th, 12th, 13th, 13th) round from the purl round, 6 times, to 46 (46, 48, 50, 52), changing colour at the same time, to 45 (46, 47, 48, 49) cm. Body and sleeves are joined with E+F for the round yoke, 196 (204, 212, 220, 228) stitches; the 42-round yoke chart — 5 stitches at each front edge are left without decreases — has five decrease rounds, taking it to 81 (84, 87, 90, 93); sizes XS to L leave out marked rounds. The collar is knitted with G+G on 4½ mm: the purl stitches are bound off, one round decreases 16 (17, 18, 19, 22) stitches, and the rest is worked back and forth in knit 1, purl 1 rib — 3 cm, then 14 stitches increased evenly, and on until the rib measures 20 cm — and bound off in rib. The underarms are grafted, the hems folded to the inside at the purl row and sewn down, and the front machine-sewn twice through each column of purl stitches, with dark thread low down and lighter thread higher up. The jacket is rinsed by hand and laid flat to dry, cut open between the sewn rows, and a thin woven ribbon is sewn over the machine stitching and folded to the inside. 5 hooks and bars, or clasps, are sewn to the front, the fronts overlapping by 5 stitches.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 27 (no. 3), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/L27_03_Land_Blue_Long_Jacket_Button_Knitting_kit_c2b3b002-14ee-4043-9e77-012c1175aa9c.jpg?v=1791027494
