kim-long-wrap-cardigan-knitting-pattern
Kim — Long Wrap Cardigan Knitting Pattern

Kim is Védís Jónsdóttir’s long, open wrap cardigan for women from Ístex’s Lopi 26, knitted in Léttlopi in pieces and sewn together, cut like a kimono: two fronts with moss-stitch borders that slope to the shoulder and overlap, wide straight sleeves on drop shoulders, and one big intarsia motif at the centre back — a ring round an eight-pointed star of petals. It has no buttons or ties. The pattern has two colour versions with the same amounts, in sizes S to XL: blue — lapis blue with a heaven blue ring, a navy blue centre and petals in light red, lilac, sun yellow and spring green — and red — garnet red with a light red ring, a black centre and petals in spring green, pink, sun yellow and glacier blue. Light red (1408), lilac (1413) and sun yellow (1411) are no longer made; every other colour in the pattern still is.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Two colour versions — blue and red

Sizes S, M, L and XL

The motif chart, 41 stitches by 55 rows, with a colour key for both versions

Yarn and needles are not included. Moss stitch is knitted on the same needles; no smaller size is used

You will also need
Stitch holders (or scrap yarn) for the shoulder stitches, small bobbins or separate lengths of yarn for the intarsia motif, and a tapestry needle for joining the pieces — none of them is in the pattern’s list. The pattern has no fastening; the belt in two of the photos is not part of it.

How it is knitted
Knitted in pieces and sewn together. The back and the two fronts are knitted back and forth on the 80 cm circular, each starting with 7 rows of moss stitch. Each front has a 10-stitch moss-stitch border along its front edge, and a decrease beside the border every 10th row slopes the front from the hem to the shoulder. On the back, from 42 (45, 48, 50) cm, the 41-stitch motif is knitted in intarsia from a 55-row chart: in the blue version a heaven blue ring round a navy blue centre, with an eight-pointed star of petals in light red, lilac, sun yellow and spring green; in the red version a light red ring round a black centre, with petals in spring green, pink, sun yellow and glacier blue. The sleeves are knitted in the round, wide and straight, with 7 rounds of moss stitch at the cuff and no shaping. The front shoulders are joined to the back, and the two borders carry on past the shoulders for 8 (8, 9, 9) cm, are grafted together at the centre back and sewn along the back neck. The sleeves are sewn to the sides from the shoulder down — the sleeve’s width sets the depth of the armhole — and the side seams are sewn.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 26 (no. 15), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi26-kim-cover-1_66b5c138-2488-4d0a-bed2-c86e11393b67.jpg?v=1791000032
