The body is cast on in A with 208 (224, 240, 256) stitches on the 3½ mm circular and knitted back and forth in garter stitch for 5 rows (3 ridges); on 4½ mm it is joined into a round and knitted in stocking stitch. Short dress: the 19-round border chart comes first (sizes S and M leave out one round), then one round in A. Long dress: 12 cm in A, with no border. Both then decrease 16 stitches evenly, to 192 (208, 224, 240), and after 5 (6, 7, 8) cm are shaped at the sides — 2 stitches at each side marker, eight times, every 12th round on the short dress and every 13th (13th, 14th, 14th) round on the long one — to 160 (176, 192, 208); then 8 stitches are decreased evenly and 4 more at the sides, to 148 (164, 180, 196), and the body is knitted to 58 (60, 62, 64) cm for the short dress or 68 (70, 72, 74) cm for the long. The sleeves are cast on in A with 40 (48, 48, 48) stitches on 3½ mm double-pointed needles, knitted back and forth in garter stitch for 5 rows, joined on 4½ mm and given the border chart (in both lengths); then in A 1 stitch is increased after the first and before the last stitch of the round — right after the chart, then every 9th (12th, 11th, 10th) round, 9 (7, 8, 9) times in all — to 58 (62, 64, 66), and the sleeve is knitted to 44 (46, 48, 49) cm. Body and sleeves are joined in A for the round yoke, 224 (240, 256, 272) stitches, and the 48-round yoke chart, with five decrease rounds, takes it to 84 (90, 96, 102); the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. Four short rows in A are worked across the back, wrapping a stitch at each turn. The neckband is knitted on 3½ mm: one knit round decreasing to 74 (78, 82, 86) stitches, one purl round and one knit round, then it is bound off purlwise.
