The Plötulopi changes colour in the order B, C, D, E, F, G — mostly 3 or 4 garter ridges each — and is twisted together with the new colour at each change, always on the wrong side. The body is knitted in one piece, cast on with 158 (162, 174, 182, 190) stitches on 5 mm; at 12 cm and then every 8 cm it is decreased by 8 stitches, four times in all, to 126 (130, 142, 150, 158), so it is wider at the hem than at the chest. When the colour order has been worked three times and four more colours added, the body should measure about 47 (48, 50, 53, 54) cm. The sleeves are knitted flat, increased at both edges to 50 (52, 56, 58, 62) stitches, and later sewn together from the right side. Body and sleeves are joined for a round yoke, still worked back and forth, of 194 (202, 222, 226, 242) stitches with five decrease rows; then, on 4 mm, one more decrease row takes it to 62 (62, 68, 69, 71) stitches and the colour pattern goes on for 12 cm — the collar — and is bound off. The button bands are picked up along the fronts in A+G, one stitch in each garter ridge, and knitted in garter stitch — the left band 4 garter ridges, the right band 2 ridges, a buttonhole row and 2 more ridges, with seven yarn-over buttonholes in the right band.
