Guðrún Ragna Sigurjónsdóttir’s long, loose cardigan is knitted on 10 mm needles with one strand of Álafosslopi and one of Plötulopi held together, in pieces that are sewn up: white all over, with a column of navy-and-white diamonds up the centre back, a textured rib at the hem, cuffs and front bands, two pockets, a deep ribbed collar and five buttons. Sizes S, M and L. The leaflet prints the navy Álafosslopi as 1026, a number Ístex’s Álafosslopi range does not have; Ístex’s Álafosslopi navy is 0118, which our kit uses. The other three colours are still made.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Sizes S, M and L

The diamond chart for the back, with a key

Yarn and needles are not included. The back is cast on with 54 (60, 64) stitches and starts with 12 rows of a textured rib (p2, k2 on the right side, shifted by one stitch on the wrong side). Then the diamond chart, centred on the back’s middle stitch, is repeated up to the neckline: a 40-row diamond, 21 stitches at its widest, knitted in garter stitch — knit on both sides — in alternating white and navy stitches with the intarsia technique, while the rest of the back is white stocking stitch. The armholes are shaped from 54 (56, 59) cm and the shoulders bound off in steps. Each front starts with 11 rows of rib; its 8 front-edge stitches are put aside for the band, and a slanted pocket opening is shaped with decreases and backed with a small knitted pocket lining. The sleeves are cast on with 24 stitches, have 12 rows of rib and are increased to 47 stitches; the sleeve top is bound off after two bind-off rows and two decrease rows. After the seams, the held stitches are knitted up into rib bands — one with five buttonholes — and sewn to the fronts; the collar is picked up, 60 stitches, and knitted in rib for 15 cm; the pocket openings get 6 rows of rib.

Design: Guðrún Ragna Sigurjónsdóttir — pattern from Ístex 25 years (no. 6, June), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/Juni2_ae41f189-f1a3-4778-b504-737912aff493.jpg?v=1791011842
