The body is cast on in B with 176 (184, 192, 200, 208) stitches on the 4½ mm circular, and its edge is 6 rounds: 2 rounds of knit 1, purl 1 in B, 2 rounds with the knit stitches in A and the purl stitches in B, and 2 rounds of knit 1 in C, knit 1 in A. Then the body is knitted in A to 36 (36, 38, 41, 44) cm. The sleeves are cast on in B with 42 (42, 44, 44, 46) stitches on 4½ mm double-pointed needles, and the first 3 cm are knitted like the body’s edge (“Knit first 3 cm as body”); then in A 1 stitch is increased at the beginning and end of every 5th round, 15 (16, 16, 16, 17) times, to 72 (74, 76, 78, 80), and the sleeve is knitted to 42 (43, 44, 45, 46) cm for women or 45 (46, 47, 48, 49) cm for men. 13 (14, 14, 15, 16) stitches at each sleeve’s underarm and a group at each side of the body go on holders, and body and sleeves are joined in A for the round yoke, 272 (280, 288, 296, 304) stitches. The 53-round chart, with six decrease rounds, takes it to 68 (70, 72, 74, 76); sizes XS to L leave out the rounds marked for them — by the chart’s labels 45 (48, 50, 51, 53) rounds — and the last round is knitted on the shorter needle. The neckband is knitted on the 3½ mm circular: 9 rounds of knit 1, purl 1 rib and 1 round of stocking stitch; then the work is turned so the reverse of the neckband faces you — one stitch is moved and the yarn taken round it so that no hole forms — and 9 more rounds of rib follow, then 3 rounds with B on the knit stitches and A on the purl stitches and 1 round of stocking stitch in B, cast off loosely. The underarm stitches are joined, and a button is sewn into every other ring of the yoke; in sizes S and L, which have an odd number of rings, two rings in the middle of the back are left empty.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 24 (no. 6), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/L24_06_Hringur_icelandic_wool_sweater_knitting_kit_7ce2dc9e-2f76-449f-96fc-63f102c8f280.jpg?v=1791035264
