Védís Jónsdóttir’s round-yoke sweater from Ístex’s Einband pattern series, knitted with a single strand of fine Einband on 6 mm needles, which gives a light, open fabric. Body and sleeves are knitted in wide stripes of black, tawny, ash and dark grey, with rounds of eyelet holes near the hem and cuffs, and the stripes go on into the yoke as it narrows to a wide neck, bound off with two strands of black. Both have the same stripes in the same order: black with a round of holes, tawny with a round of holes, then ash, which starts with a round of holes and goes on as a long stripe, then dark grey, a wide stripe of black, and ash again up to the underarm. A round of holes takes two rounds: K2tog, two yarn overs and SSK, then on the next round you knit one loop of each double yarn over and purl the other. The sleeves are increased at the underarm. Body and sleeves are joined in ash, and the yoke is knitted from a 35-round chart with four decrease rounds, from 180 (186, 198, 210, 216) stitches to 60 (62, 66, 70, 72); in the larger sizes the marked rounds are knitted twice, so the yoke is 35 (37, 39, 41, 42) rounds deep (our count). The yoke chart is stripes only — by our reading ash, tawny, dark grey and black. The neck is bound off knitwise with two strands of black on the 4 mm needle — the pattern says it should be wide — and the underarm stitches are grafted. Last, the sweater is rinsed by hand and laid flat to dry to its measurements.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Ístex’s Einband pattern series, no. 3.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/einband-hradi-1_68b9d2e4-79f4-46b1-ae73-fdf16358583e.jpg?v=1791006674
